it doesn't help that in *every* store I've seen anime in they place it right next to the "adult videos"... That drives me crazy.

The head-admin of my mud actually accused anime/manga for being hentai/porn just now and I came to think of this topic =D

I quoted what some of you guys said and he said he would watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, Berserk and Excel Saga.

Maybe he's a new follower of japan!

I say this bluntly but, its true that many Hollywood movies put in sex and nudity to sell their films to a greater audience (its not always bad you know, don't get me wrong), but often times it has very little if nothing to do with the plot, whereas in Ninja Scroll the nudity and sex is integral to the plot (you know what I mean if you've seen it).

Yeah, that really sucks. I'm embarased that I'm standing right next to the porno section when I'm looking for a legit movie. Or I'm browsing the anime and it just fades over into the porn and I'm like "Augh"

Just tell someone that what you see in many animes is no different than what you would see in an R rated movie, and that's not porn.

Actually, I've only seen that happen once. Most of the time, it's mixed within the Sci-Fi section.

Umm, I would not reccomend those to someone going into anime with a bad impression already. Those may just back up the assumptions he already has. Eva has tons of sexual over tones. Berserk has a lot of homo over tones( Dont get me wrong, I like berserk, but your boss is gonna be looking for stuff to back up his beleifs) and Excel, well, I dont know, I love that show but its got a really dark and twisted sense of humor and I wouldnt bet on your boss appretiating that kind of humor.

I was in Blockbuster, which by me has some pretty spiffy anime's in it (first place where I got to see Angel Sanctuary, Ranma 1/2, and Princess Monokee. Go Blockbuster) and it was right next to the adult videos (which had a lot of porn-ish stuff in it, judging by the titles.) and some people were looking at me funny like "Eww, that little girl is going to watch some cartoon porn. That's sick!" I was all pissed off, but didn't say anything in fear of getting banned from Blockbuster.
