It also seems it's the one that's hard to get...for the past couple of months or so, I have been trying to get hold of a copy to see if it's good as I imagined it would be. I only succeeded at buying a copy of the the Setember 2005 issue a few days ago, and boy, did I ever had to search hard through the manga/comic specialty stores to get it....while Shonen Jump is available in nearly every freaking magazine store! I do think it lives up to some of the hype... Godchild by Kaori Yuki and Absolute Boyfriend [aka Zettai Kareshi] by Yuu Watase seem especially good.OtakuMan22 wrote:Shoujo Beat - A new manga anthology from Viz Communications that contains popular Shoujo titles for all the girls (and boys) to enjoy with romance, angst, and some freaky ass stuff too! If you want your manga anthologies with a hint of feminine charm, THIS is the one to get!
You forgot to mention the defunct anthology Pulp. I can't remember who published it, but it was pretty cool and serialized such titles as Uzumaki, Banana Fish, Bakune Young and the underated gag manga Short Cuts. It also had the very funny "Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga" series in it.

PULP was also done by Viz Communications, back in the days of Animerica Extra, and also during Manga Vizion too. It had some of the really good adult only titles, as well as some really nice articles. I remember Viz collected some of their best articles into a book called "Fresh Pulp" (I own it, but it's stored away at home since I'm moving soon) and one that I fondly remember was the one about the manga adaption of "Chasing Amy"! I actually got it signed by Jason Mewes when he came to my college (Jay of Jay and Silent Bob).
I think a resurgence of PULP might be well received right now with the Shoujo and the Shonen out right now.
Also, while a shamless plug, try clicking on my sig below to get to my local anime shop. They ALWAYS carry Shoujo Beat in their store and keep up with the latest issues (it sits next to Shonen Jump). I believe they do mail orders, so you could probably have them help you get your Shoujo Beat fix on!

If you do you get a free gift from them a cosplay hat of Menchi from Excel Saga or Saizo from PeacemakerIamSano wrote:It has anime episodes?! Whoa. Maybe I should subscribe...Banana_Boat wrote:NewType is a pretty neat source for anime, and its among the best anime magazines (certainly most popular) Issues include anime revievs, music and game reviews, manga reviews, interviews and such. Also each issue if im not mistaken comes with a DVD that contains the first episode of an anime, theres usually 2 or 3.
