I really don't like dubs either. I am not opposed to other people watching them, but I just don't like them. . . maybe it's my inner adult pathetically rationalizing that if it's still got Japanese dialogue and subtitles that it's a great form of foreign art and not a cartoon. ^^;; . . . . But also most of my favorite animes either arent' liscenced yet or got liscenced years after I saw them so the Japanese dialogue is just what I'm used to.

One dub that I did find preferable to the original was Princess Mononoke, but that's the only time. But most Ghibli dubs are done very well becaue they have a much larger budget to work with and Disney actually seems to care about keeping it as accurate as possible.

Oddly enough, I'd rather hear a character get a new name that the actors could prounounce than listen through them struggle everytime they gargle out the character's real name. Also in the changes they tend to look any of the honorifics which is good because I get so sick of the dubs where everyone's always refering to eachother as Miss and Mr. ><

I'm not a sub purist or anything, in fact I do tend to watch a dub. Though with the amount of fansubs I watch these days, I wonder if my standards have gotten higher or if I have just caught some sucky dubs.

Gundam Seed and Orphen were lame. Orphen was just terrible what with how it didn't fit the original dialogue at all. Yeah I appreciate they need to fill mouth flaps and edit the lines a bit, but "good old fashioned smackdown"'s don't belong in a Japanese sword and sorcery animation.

I have to say I liked Cowboy Bebop though, at least the movie. I still need to get the series :)

No, because I actually LIKE being able to understand what the characters are saying, instead of read those fucking subtitles.

I don't dislike subs, I just prefer dubs in general. I've been watching dubs for so long that I can easily tell a good one from a bad one... in my opinion of course..

hmm personally I tend to like reading the subtitles better myself. I don't like listening to the english dubs. The Japanese language, although I don't know what it means, is a beautful language to me and I intend on learning it someday. It's easier for me to read, listen and understand anime with the subtitles.

I can't believe this thread has survived this long. The title almost screams flamebait at me... oh well.

I'd prefer to learn Japanese so I can watch anime directly, but barring that, subs seem to be the next best thing. I also feel it makes me better than the Cartoon Network crowd.

You can beat a horse to death, then beat it some more and its body will keep moving, but it will still be dead.
