No, Saiyuki is one of many versions of Xi You Ji, or Journey to the West (aka Monkey King). Dragonball is another one, along with the girl sanzo one you mentioned (there are undoubtably more). Saiyuki does have a sequel (Saiyuki Reload) though
And of course, Manga's better.
