yeah and it even teaches some important things like,

1. How to avoid your family for years at a time and not be in trouble.
2. You can get married but dont get suckered into wearing the chick repelling "wedding ring" that no one seems to wear, ever!
3. That orange and blue can look good if worn right.
4. You dont have to feel so bad if you eat like a horse.
5. Best way to get out of a "leg over the shoulder arm lock" just by using your head(literally).
6. Beings made from huge wads of bubble gum can be badass
7. Not all blondes are ditzy and bubble headed.
Life is but a dream.....So what happens when you wake up?

Okay to paraphrase Warren Ellis, "DBZ is a phallocentric soap opera for retards, and intellectual lazy intelligent people who get off on cultural slumming."
In addition it satisfies the need for adolescent power fantasies in a culturally acceptable form. Every single one of these teeny bopper fanboys imagines himself as Gohan. There are people that have said it better then me so I leave you to look for there words.

The same reason Sailor Moon, Naruto, Evangelion, and InuYasha are so popular?

SUPER HAPPY ANIME VIOLENCE FUN TIME
We need to set up a program to get more of these kids into Fist of the North Star when they start out... ...so much more fun.

On a more serious note...

DBZ popped my anime cherry. It was the first real anime to draw me in. I've watched some DBZ recently and I can't stand the timing (40 eps of screaming and then they attack). I think that DBZ is only really appealing to those who haven't found better anime.

Goku is just such a freaking badass that it's hard not to like him. He's even cooler because he's always a little better than that sissy Vegita even though the latter busts his ass training and all Goku does is eat. What's not to love?

DBZ>everything else because...well, just because

I luv DBZ an I'd sell your corps fer a box-set....but thats just me....I think it's just a good starter for new anime fans cuz it's so easy to follow and it has a good bit O violance to keep them interested.

For me, DBZ was one of those gateway anime series. There's still a place in my heart for it :P
