Otaku are just people who really like anime. Whether they decide to call themselves that is up to them.

Otaku versus oTAku. Also, I doubt the otaku we are talking about is written with the same kanji.

Again, never ever trust western media to explain ANYTHING eastern.

Oh god!! Do you people really look like that?!?!?!......if that is one of you, uhhh...no offense. It's possible to be an anime geek and still keep style.

I think the word "Otaku" is a reference to all anime fans that live 50% or more of their life thinking about anime, like me. I think the word "geek" that some people add onto it is a little stupid though.

This is an "otaku", at least by my definition.

Someone who spends more, per year, on anime dvd's than I make.

Notice the red eyes, that's from hours of watching anime.
