Advent Children wasn't really that good of a movie when you think about it. Still it's a good watch...but not award worthy in comparison.trinigal wrote:To bad Advent Children wasn't nominated though.

Howl's was fun, but almost completely cliche Miyazaki, it almost felt like a less original remake of Spirited Away (purely from an emotional/mood-based standpoint, not plotwise). Wallace and Grommit, though I did not see it, was probably a more fresh and original choice for most members of the Acadamy.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Agreed. Advent Children is superb on a technical level based on the quality of the CG. But as an animated feature, Advent Children falls short quite a bit.Jebadia wrote:Advent Children wasn't really that good of a movie when you think about it. Howls Moving Castle was just like a remix of Miyazakis previous movies.
And it had the worst possible ending I could have ever imagined. The last few minutes should prevent the movie from winning a flower pot at any contest.
Maybe it's more enjoyable in the original dub, though. The german version tried to make you jump-in Streetfighter-style and punch the screen.
W&G was a fun movie to watch, so at least they didn't pick a bad movie as winner.

Do keep in mind that Howl's Moving Castle is a book. It was a book before the movie was made. So why not try reading the original story before you decide how good or bad it was?

you do know that almost every anime is based on mangas? So almost every anime is originally from a "book". Besides, who cares about the history of something that sucks? I don't say howl's sucks, I have not seen it yet, so think of my comment as an example for something fictive.Bloodfest Butterfly wrote:Do keep in mind that Howl's Moving Castle is a book. Because we're talking about the movie (as this thread involves the Oscars), not the book.Bloodfest Butterfly wrote:Do keep in mind that Howl's Moving Castle is a book. It was a book before the movie was made. So why not try reading the original story before you decide how good or bad it was?

Tormentor: Perhaps I wasn't clear. I'm well aware that most animes are based on mangas, and sometimes the manga is much better than the anime. Besides, I didn't say manga, I saidbook. No pictures. And some people are willing to see if something that wasn't terribly good wasn't always that way. Don't judge something before you know everything about it. It's unfair.

Wow. Thinking along those lines, you can't judge anything until you've read the book. For instance, Jurassic Park is my favorite movie and I havent read the book. And because I didn't read the book, am I not allowed to say its not good (tho it kicked mucho ass)? And I know the original book from hearsay was considerably different, but the mvoie was still good nontheless.Bloodfest Butterfly wrote:Do keep in mind that Howl's Moving Castle is a book. You're also saying that we cant judge anything until we've seen EVERYTHING assosiated with. Thigns such as Trigun have multiple origins (The original book and Maximum) and Read or Die has a lenghthy manga history. But I've never read those, so I can't say that the anime versions of both were any good? Makes no sense
So We can say Howl was good or not by just watching it. We're judging the film adaption, not the book (and I've no idea how close Miyazaki kept to the original). So there

Hey now, I'm not talking about reading E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. I'm just saying that if you take an interest in something, you may enjoy reading it too. I'm not telling you to do anything, how to judge, and what is right or wrong. That's for you to decide. I'm just saying that the option is there. You people are no better than high school sometimes; taking what someone says and running with the misenterpretation.
