Well, MOST of the series makes sense. So you should enjoy it more, but the ending and the movies are just mindfucks beyond belief. It's called "Uhhh... We set up all these intricate mysteries and plot details and we're too lazy to uhhh... Finish them... So watch this trippy shit instead, it's animated well."

I wouldn't worry about that. I did that, and I found it really didn't make too much of a difference. Though watching Death & Rebirth is practically watching the season.
