Um if the person was asking primarily for steampunk focused anime most of those don't fit even if they are decent shows to try.

And if you like Steampunk Last Exile is probably the best you can get animewise in the field. Good characters and a very grounded plot makes is quite enjoyable.

Steamboy is worth watching but keep in mind it does rush the story aspect a bit.

Sorry, my mistake. I wasn't sure what "steampunk" meant. ^^;

That's alright. Steampunk animes aren't the only ones I'm interested in; their just my favorite genre, and I hardly see enough of them. That's why I mainly asked for steampunk.

Steampunk is a genre of science fiction set in Victorian times when steam was the main source of machine power. Think "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner," and you'll have the right idea. There are other types of steampunk as well:

Medieval Steampunk: Speculative fiction set during the Middle Ages. (Final Fantasy)

Victorian Steampunk: A modern Science Fiction work (post-1930s) that is set in the early parts of the industrial revolution. (Steamboy)

Western Steampunk: Science fiction set in the American Old West. (Trigun)

Industrial/Modern Steampunk: Science fiction taking place in the late industrial age, early modern age; i.e. World War 1, World War 2 (Sakura Wars)

...Just to give you a clearer idea of what it is.

Anyway, all of you, thanks for more recommendations![/b]

Hey folks, n00b to the site here, thought I'd add my 50p's worth.

- Chobits
- Love Hina
- Trigun
- Zone of the Enders
- Cowboy BeBop

Full Metal Panic and Fumoffu are just brilliant, essential viewing.

And if you don't mind anything too "ecchi" (a little more so than Chobits, but mostly suggested), then try Hanaukyo Maid-Tai (http://www.animecornerstore.com/hamate.html) - the original series is better than the higher-budget remake IMHO.

Anyway, hope that helps. :D[/url]

- Noir
- Kino's Journey/Kino's Travel/Kino no tabi(Not sure which name to use)

Kino's Journey I think qualifies as steampunk...though not sure which type...the technology varies from place to place.

Full Metal Panic! was awesome though I didn't like Fumoffu as much. Fumoffu was great and all, but it really doesn't advance the FMP storyline much. Mostly filler...very funny filler but still. Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid was more of a sequal to FMP. It showed the next progression of Chidori and Sousuke though it still stops short of dating. The fight scenes were pretty awesome and I liked the emotional and mental turmoil that Sousuke goes through.

Has anyone mentioned Perfect Blue yet? That's a really good psychological thriller. Kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through.

And Mahoromatic rocked my world too. Bless Mahoro and her little boobs! Aww!
