wow, a lot of people got into anime through cartoon network, that's kinda sad really. More people think they know everything that way, once they've seen some of the DBZ!! Atleast most of you guys know what real stuff is, not just the childrens section.
As for me, my brother is 4 years older, and his best friend is for years older than him, I hung out with them a lot. We were all really REALLY into video games. I mean now we have the internet and everyone gets word of the rumors, ideas and release dates, but back then we didn't have the internet but we still knew. Like Final Fantasy 3, stuff like that we knew months in advance. Going through these long, endless, and sometimes sressfull sorces to get these tibets of information we'd not only learn about videogames but anime too. We started ordering and watching stuff, we all got really into it. for years I pretty much just followed my brother around ,went to the cons he went to and watched with him what he watched, but when i was a freshman in highschool he graduated and went off to college. After that I got into looking up my own stuff entirley and since then, I've become pretty intune. Cuz even you guys that just watch cartoon network, it comes to you, stuff used to just come to me and I watched it, but when he was gone I got cut off. That was something like three years ago, now i have a big anime collection, all I had before he elft was slayers the movie.

That's why alot of people come to these forums. To find out what's good other than what's being shown on cartoon network. Luckily Animerica and the such can give a small....I repeat small idea of other good titles out there. We've come a long way and if main stream brings in more Otakus I say welcome, just remember, this is not a Fad, don't treat it like such, you suck if you do.Jace Tsunami wrote:wow, a lot of people got into anime through cartoon network, that's kinda sad really. I agree that most people out there only know the stuff that is on cartoon network. It really ticks me off when they think they know everything about anime there is. Come on I know more than those people and dont know very much about anime yet. I have not figure out wither I been bless by not have cable because I could not be coruputed by cartoon networks crap and getting in my mind that I know everything about anime. I remeber when I was 5th grade they show some good anime on on regurlar TV (the TV the free) in the morning (rodin warriors, and some anime that I been trying to firgure out for years what it was called).

Back in the day when I was a kid, I was hardcore into videogames, and I would get GamePro magazine. Ocasionally through the magazine, I would hear of something called anime, or japanimation, or what have you, and I would see anime-style art sometimes in their mail art section. So one day in junior high, I came in after school, was flipping through the channels, and came across Sailor Moon. I recognized it from one of the drawings someone had sent into Gamepro, so I decided to see what it was. At first I was sort of laughing at it, thinking how stupid it was... I'm not quite sure what happened, but I kept watching it. I would watch it every day. This must have continued for something like 2 months, until I came in and flipped it on, and saw a lame cartoon of THE MASK in its place. I was like "WTF!!! WHERES SAILOR MOON" and I went into like 3 days of depression and even wrote a letter to the tv station begging them to put it back on
Around this time I was getting my first experience on the internet, and soon spent most of my time browsing Sailor Moon sites, came across the SOS page... learned about the Pop-tart procott thingy, and went out and bought some pop tarts (GOD, what a loser I was! ) Then when the show moved to USA I was incredibly happy. It came on in the morning while I was at school, so I had to tape it... I had EVERY DAMN EPISODE released at this point archived on EP mode vhs!
Little while later, it got took off USA, but I had all the episodes up to where they stopped dubbing it, so I was somewhat content. Then I saw DBZ one saturday morning, started taping it every weekend...
Then Sailor moon moved to cartoon network, so I went and got my parents to get some more costly cable package so I could have the channel, and I was happy. I also acquired fansubs of the 3 Sailor moon movies.
Then DBZ moved to cartoon network, and I archived like every episode of that (that was dubbed at this point) on VHS.
Now sometime around this point, I started ordering some anime on VHS from Right Stuff. I got Wings of Honneamise, Grave of the Fireflies, Gunsmith cats, and the first half of Evangelion.
Next, I had heard of pokemon through game magazines, and so I started taping it when it aired, got every episode from its first run...
Now sometime, I finally got around to getting the 2nd half of Evangelion, and I think it was at this point where I was truely hooked on anime. It became my favorite series of all time.
Then they started showing tenchi on CN, of course I taped all of that one too. Right after that though I went away to college.
Soon after arriving, I downloaded and watched a 80mb vivo of the first half of End Of Evangelion, in RAW JAPANESE. After veiwing it I literally thought I was going insane, and I decided I absolutely could not watch the rest untill it came out subtitled.
Very soon after, I stumbled across digisubs on irc (they were JUST starting to be made at this point). I remember watching 30mb episodes of Love Hina and thinking how awesome the video quality was ^_^
Anyways I became totally addicted to downloading anime off IRC, I now have over 500 CD-Rs of anime, I started fansubbing myself, and it led me to AMVs ^_^
