I'm a graduate student and work at the languages department.
For some odd reason, half of my colleagues are either Japanese or have lived in Japan for >1 year
None of them that I know are what one would call 'otaku' nor have any big anime-related hobbies, but all of them have something of an anime/manga sort that they like and will watch/read it casually.
...sorta like me, too

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Be proud of what you do, so long as you're not one-dimensional about it.
read: DBZ, Naruto-only fandorks...
When I hear anime being referred to as cartoons, I kinda break the mold and give them links to pics of Bible Black and then ask them wtf is the connotation for 'cartoons'...
Anime is multi-dimensional. A medium that transcends ALL other forms of entertainment media.
What you can't do in live action or animated, anime manages to do both. [tentacle sex0rs not withstanding]
Now we've got beautiful mixes of animation & CG onscreen. [the Void warp inside Miroku's hand from Inu Yasha is one of the BEST uses of CG I've seen and definitely takes the 'must be in cg' route for me to be plausible]
I voice my take on anime usually if I'm asked what I do:
I'm a fan of non-goal/ball oriented sports - biking, climing, swimming, etc. [I suck at b-ball soccer, whatnot, I'm all about fitness]
I'm a cpu builder. Built 3 home PCs from scratch and proud of it. Overclocked two of them to the safe limit.
I'm a former engineer turned finance major.
And lastly, I love watching anime and hentai [with the wife no less ^_^]

Well, I own around 38 series, and I've watched a bunch from my son, so around 50 series. I also have over 50 single disc anime that I've watched. Can't get near keeping up with my boy, but not bad for a senior citizen. We've gotten through about 10 series at work.NerdStrudel wrote:I just can't imagine older guys watchin anime it's weird, never seen it, but it's kickass.
SIDE QUESTION: About how many anime series do you think you've seen Oldwrench?
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

My classmates cannot and do not want to distinguish between Anime and Hentai. The fact that I watch both is irrelevant . There are two I get on with who would buy anime but dont know where to start apart from the ghibli ofc. It sucks when people are laughing at you for watching He is my Master in class, and being called a pervert every time sweaty breasts are mentioned T_T.
