I remember seeing DBZ for the first time on toonami and was like:
"WTF those guys are shooting beams at each other"
I admitt I got into anime cause of Cartoon network but it wasn't because of toonami. I got into it back when they played "speed racer" late night and "ronin warriors"(Which i still love to this day) durring the daytime.
Good times

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

It's sad to see this block go, but it's probably for the best at this point.
Like for many people here, Toonami turned me into an anime fan. Unfortunately, I was only interested in Cardcaptors, DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Yuyu Hakusho at the time. So, I never really got much of a greater appreciation for this block until recently.

I'm not sure if Naruto is in their permanent schedule-- the one week I saw it outside of Toonami may be a fluke, with my luck. But Adult Swim is slaughtering its anime. It seems like they're begrudgingly keeping Bleach and they just abruptly shut off Code Geass- I was really getting into that one, even if it's dubbed.Jasta85 wrote:so, aside from adult swim, is cartoon network still showing anime? or have they tried to drop it, seems that they have been trying to get out of anime for a while it's just that they had too many viewers from it to do it openly
Cartoon Network is definitely abandoning anime, and since my cable provider is so Comcastic, we still don't have Anime Network. I may die...
This is old news. I didn't think it was worth making a thread over. Besides, the only anime they were running at the time was Naruto, and they are still going to run it on CN.

Yeah, it's old news but I was totally in disbelief so I had to piss and moan here! Also, Toonami was such a staple in most people's journey to anime I felt like it deserved a thread memorial.
Had so many good memories with Toonami, it was painful watching it suffer at the hands of that last TOM .
Something cool: The article quotes the last episode of Cowboy Bebop! Did you notice? Steve Blum was the only cool thing left about Toonami...
I'm actually glad to see Toonami go.
I admit it was also what really got me into anime, although I was interested in anime before it came around.
But the sad thing was it did such an excessive job of editing and chopping up anime. Removing nudity, removing excessive violence, removing entire scenes because they were too indecent for teh children, removing stuff to shorten down the anime so they could add more advertising, and of course removing the intros and endings to shows.
I have no love for that dumb robot.
The final bullet was when Toonami became nothing but Naruto, Gundam, and DBZ reruns. To have sunken that low and that stupid, it needed to be put out of it's misery.
Fare thee well. I knew thee before thee went down the path of the dark side.

Re:
Actually he's not the only one that finds it odd to watch anime on tv. This is American [aka edited to high shits] TV we're referring to. Watching anime on American TV is like watching a porno on Sesame Street. Ain't gonna happen without boatloads of editing and chopping and removing some important details. [hint: those aren't fingers they're pointing in Yugi-Oh & Melfina doesn't wear bathing suits]ShatteredFlame wrote:You really have to stop speaking only from YOUR opinion. Or at least use some common sense before you post. You do realize that without anime airing on TV, it wouldn't have been popular in the first place, right? Toonami introduced lots of people into anime, including a portion of people on this site.Sukunai wrote:Watching anime on tv is really like watching ANYthing on tv.
Non anime shows on tv suck, I am not surprised that anime on tv sucks. But what is always odd, is that people actually enjoy watching anime on tv in the first place.
Bye Toonami, never watched ya, won't miss ya.
And fuck, just because YOU don't enjoy anything on TV doesn't mean others don't. And just because your too biased to look into anything that's not anime doesn't mean it sucks.
I don't have Cable so I don't have access to cool shows like Discovery Channel & History (sue me I'm a nerd into Human Weapon, Mythbusters and Bible Battles lol] And yes, anything other than anime kinda sucks for me too so to speak.
Me and shattered flame should open a hate everything but anime club. My friend chronosabre also suffers from 'never watch tv cause it sucks'. I'm guessing there's a notable number of people who don't watch normal tv here.
