personally I think the show is one of the worst things I've ever seen, but it does make for some interesting dreams.

I fell asleep with the tv on and Yu Gi Oh came and he was in my dreams, and I can tell you it was a trip fest, man my life hasn't been the same sense

Tea

Post by Golden Saucer » Tue Jan 21, 2003 11:12 pm

Well I've seen mostly everything in anime, i think it is safe to say I'm on route to become an Otaku (of course USA's definition, cause otaku in japanese is not far from geek or nerd). So I've seen Evangelion a few thousand times, wrote about it for school papers, seen all Saber marionette movies and series, seen Jin Roh recently and Sen to chihiro no kamikakushi and blah blah blah, you get the idea.

Well I know what's good anime and what's child exploiting anime, the difference between the two is the objective, Good anime aims to please the viewer with great stories, video/sound quality, special effects, originality, it's obvious when they put effort in it or not. Now child (and daddy's wallet) exploiting anime focuses on having a story (any will do) that involves lot's of collectibles, and make em look coool or cute. These can become endless and if the show is well received the number will ROCKET sky high. (I meant ROCKET, team, err........get it?!)

Well Yu-gi-oh is pretty much a child exploiting anime, but not as brainless as the other 9999 trillion child exploiting anime I've seen (fuck Fox kids they are ruining the reputation of anime) Mmm again FUCK FOX KIDS, ok now we can continue. The card game per se is tolerable, the characters are pretty good, and the story is pretty good too, but what freaks me out is that in the card game they contradict their own rules time and time again!!, just to suit the fight, fuck that, I mean they could have made a rulebook and then the series would be pretty good, but no they were a bunch of greedy slackers that just made 3 basic rules and made up the rest while developing the sequence of events at the storie board+

Well I watch it cause after watching Pokemon, any and I mean any anime is a masterpiece as to compared with that braindead shit, that said I enjoy watching yu gi oh, not gonna buy the cards ever or the game or even follow closely the series (neither the movies) but if it's on tv it's good way to kill half an hour.

And why does that bitch Tea is always wit Yu-gi?!

the thing that makes yu gi oh cards good.

A The magic and traps

B the monstaers abilities and flip effects

because the rules are simple the game is very open ended, leaving everything up to the cards, I know it's a fad game and may die off. but since the monsters can have the abilities and the magic and traps are so good. the card game has the potential to last a long time. Unlike other CCG's like battletech or pokemon.

No one I've ever known has really played Pokémon, or at least not the official way. They only trade the cards or collect them. I tried playing it once, just for fun, and got soooo confused...

Ok, if it's one thing I'm sick to death of, it's people lumping Yu-Gi-Oh and PUKEmon together as if they're one in the same. They're not! Yu-Gi-Oh has one thing Pokemon never had, nor ever will have: a PLOT! The show is more about the characters than the actual game. Each duel has a purpose, whether it's Kaiba battling for his brother's freedom, or Yuugi battling for his grandfather's soul. The stakes are a hell of a lot higher than just fighting for some stupid badge.

Not to mention that Duel Monsters takes a lot more strategy than throwing these little red and white balls and yelling at these sickeningly cute little creatures to beat the crap out of each other. I believe Bob from Reboot put it best: "You're telling me this game is about keeping animals trapped in these little balls, then letting them out to fight? That is SICK!" Anyone ever notice how frighteningly close Pokemon is to a dog fighting ring? Think about it. The whole point of the damn game (and most of the show) is to keep these poor animals locked up, and only let them out for fighting. Same thing a dog ring does. Except dog fighting is illegal.

At least in Yu-Gi-Oh, the monsters aren't REAL! They're 3-D computer representations of the cards. No harm, no foul, no borderline animal cruelty.

Aiy, another Yu-Gi-Oh vs. Pukemon rant. I do a lot of these. But anyway, the bottom line is that Yu-Gi-Oh isn't half bad for a kids' anime. Remember, the show was actually MADE for children. And for being in that category it really is pretty damn good. You can't compare it to the anime greats because those were made for an entirely different audience.

What is most pathetic about Pukemon is its "moral lessons" about how a pukemon shoud be treatedna and then again I've seen ash eat meat stew, is it pokemon stew? :)

Truly you do have a point. However it is not that bad of a game. When you start playing it, when you realy get into oit and when you understand it, it is quite fun.
