Well it's not just that. There are alot of people who just hate watching sad endings. Even story writers mostly prefer a happy ending where everything works out/returns to normal in the end some how. It's silly actually cause sad endings can be very epic. Look at clannad for example. It could of had an epic sad ending of suicide to some degree but obviously alot of people would of been mortified by it more so then liked it for its uniqueness. The human heart is the bane of sad endings, it depends on the personality of the story's creator.

IMO: Sad endings are just as good/better as happy ones. Though sad endings have more of an impact on emotions which can either be enjoyable to some degree if you can handle them or ulcer producing/emo for a few days if you cant. Even if it had the latter effect on you... I'd say it was a damn good ending if it effected you that much.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

yeah I hated Clannad's happy ending (and the little side story...) I'm like, how does that even make sense?? What a waste of time.

But with how the economy is right now its not likely that anyone in the anime industry will be willing to take such a gamble.

These deaths are all shallow compared to Towards the Terra where.
Spoiler :
Soldier Blue dies. Jomy dies. Keith dies. Sam dies. !!!->Matsuka<-!!! dies, the elders die, Jomy's speechless friend dies, the people who started life on the other planet died, Tony's gf dies, 2 other of the type blue children die
So many high impact deaths in the show since there is so much character development T_T

I'm disappointed that very few of you are going into any sort of detail about these deaths.

I've always liked happy endings. Depressing shows cause depressing people I think studies may have shown. [or not, I've been wrong before lol]

And as was mentioned earlier, the audience for people 'wanting' to see terrible endings to favorite characters are very few, and then WHAM, they get resurrected Jesus style and then nobody takes it seriously anymore.

I'm all for Jesus fights, those are awesome...

that's like saying violent games cause violent crimes. I find I'm more depressing when I DON'T watch depressing shows, more horny when I DON'T watch porn and so on. Just disappointed when I see a happy ending to a sad anime. Happy endings are fine for shows like He is my Master or Kiddy Grade, but when an anime is SAD like Clannad or De Capo a happy ending is just dumb... imo.
