Evangelion Prequel and other eva stuff

I could understand that Shinji wanted to come back and live his life, and that he felt it worth living, but why is Asuka there? That's the BIGGEST question I have. If you could end the film where Eva-01 is floating through space as the infinite symbol of man's existence... I would have been fine with that... We saw a new Earth created and the LCL that was collected into the egg of Lilith spilt back onto that Earth... implying that mankind was returned... with the option to exist. But the final scene on the beach just left me curious. Why has Asuka chosen to live... and nobody else has yet?

Here's my take on it (two possibilities). Shinji becomes a "God-like" entity during Instrumentality and essentially makes the choice for mankind (he rejects instrumentality and goes back, giving man the choice, which you went over). My understanding is that he chooses to bring Asuka back with him. As unstable as their relationship is, he does like her and vice versa. I guess being a "God" has it's advantages. There's also the symbolism of Shinji and Asuka being the only humans and earth ala Adam and Eve.

Second possibility: Asuka went through the whole self-searching and came to the same answer Shinji did. As you said, all people will have the choice to come back and obviously Asuka is one of them. It's possible she was one of the people who chose earlier. We do know through episodes 25 & 26 that everyone is going through what Shinji did.

i actualy heard thta 'load of crap' on the DVD, director comentary, if you think about it, who are the three closes souls to Shinji???
It would make sense to have all three together , since the choices were all made by Shinji, besides, i always thought it was either Ritsuko or Gendo.....

No, it wouldnt make sense. The ending takes place in the real phsyical world, not the metaphorical metaphysical worlds of contemplation that we see from time to time throughout the series and movies. Aside from that, the only basis they have is that asuka has bandages like rei and eyes like misato.
Asuka DOES NOT have bandages like rei and eyes like misato. That's a blind observation. The bandages are merely placed where asuka was badly damaged in the fight with the MP models (her right arm, her left eye). Her eyes appear brownish-colored... but if anyone would care too look at the setting they're in!

everything is tinted red and brown (the only light comes from the moon, which has a streak of blood running across it coloring everything blood red). Shinji's eyes are tinted as well.

It was shinji, being inside unit 01, who ultimately decided that he didnt want instrumentality and caused the entire thing to fall apart (as fuyutsuki and keel make clear, instrumentality relies on shinji as the person piloting unit 01). After that people are given the chance to reform their bodies. Theres no indication that shinji specifically chose (or wanted, after all he does try to strangle her :\) asuka to be there, but it's quite possible she was able to form herself again. Like jeb said maybe other people already were doing the same thing in other parts of the world. Also, someone once brought up the point that the earth was now destroyed. Not necessarily

the place where asuka and shinji wake up is obviously destroyed because of all the explosions and shit that went on before 3rd impact itself began. Theres no real indication that the otherwise normal parts of the earth werent just as they always were.

well, as interesting as it is to talk about everyones theory on the end of evagelion, no one can ever say they are correct, except from Anno, but i doubt he'll tell us anytime soon. Maybe hell let on when hes on his death bed who knows???
