Wow I can't believe Astro Boy wasn't mentioned more often, as a kid I was obsessed, had had to get home and watch it everyday after school.
But the first anime I knew was Japanese "anime" was fist of the north star, man when I was in grade three the concept of punching people and making their heads a 'splode was so cool. (hell it's still pretty cool)

Hmmm...the first anime I watched that pretty much resulted in anime addiction was Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind. I remember watching it dubbed on VHS. Back then it was released with the title "Warriors of the Wind." When it was released on DVD it blew my mind just how much they had changed and taken out from the original Japanese version. There was something like 20 minutes of film I had been missing all this time.
Oddly enough, I prefer the dubbing on the older VHS version better than the DVD version. I still own the old VHS version too. Its damned old.

My first anime I saw just by chance, I was up at midnight and I saw Gundam Wing on Cartoon network. After that I was hooked watched anything that was on CN (cause it was free and I didn’t have a lot of money when I was 14) The first anime series I bough was Outlaw star. People may hate CN I know I kinda do, but without it I would have never got into anime. Now 21 I still love anime.
