Voices in my head.

Post by HeavyMetal » Wed Jun 23, 2004 2:47 am

Lets see.

I used to know more, but it has been a while since I have seen some of these shows. I have NOT credit confirmed all of them either.

Inuyasha - Inuyasha / Bit Clouds - Zoids

Sano - Kenshin / Crim - Hack//Sign

Gene - Outlaw Star / Roger - Big O / Hubb - Wolf's Rain

Cher - Wolf's Rain / Faye - Bebop

Jet - Bebop / Some commander - Gundam 083

Amuro - Gundam / Quartte - Gundam Wing

Vash - Trigun / Kiba - Wolf's Rain

Hiei - YYH / Android 17 - DBZ

Elder Ham - Hamtaro / King Kai - DBZ

Young Gohan - DBZ / Goku - DB

Yusuke - YYH / Yaiba - Cased Closed

Sazuka - Outlaw Star / Angel - Big O

A few I am a little sceptical of but suspect:

Subaru - Hack//Sign / Melfina - Outlaw Star

Najica - Najica Blitz Tactics / Maki - Burn Up

Here is a tip. It seems that companies tend to use the same voice actors for their shows.

Be aware that sometimes a main character's voice in one show will be a minor character's voice in another show.

So keep an especially keen ear out for anime produced by the same company.

When I am not half asleep I will try to think of more. I have a good ear but like I said its been a while since I have seen some of these shows so I am going by memory.

...Vegeta's just one of the main important fighting guys, right?
Heh, technically Kuwabara is the second main character in YYH (this is broken in the Makai arc, but otherwise true).

But it's not really *Vegeta* so much as Piccolo. If they don't have the same voice actor then they have uncanily similar voice actors. Kuwabara sounds like Piccolo more than Vegeta, but it's still about the same voice - the difference is the 'tone' they use. The voice actor doing Kuwabara makes him sound big and stupid - when he did Vegeta's voice he made him sound impatient and angry. [And forgive me if Vegeta and Piccolo don't have the same voice actor - they sound the same, whether they have different names or not.]

I think having Hiei use Android 17's voice is a very nice comparison - 17 had a nice monotone going for the most part, but a nice pitch when he was mocking people (made him sound smart and amused). That sort of inflection fits Hiei's character.

As for Kurama...I'm still thinking it sounds like Shin, but it's been a while since I saw those episodes dubbed. I'd really like a confirmation. If they are the same, then it works very nicely - Shin has that soft, intelligent, 'bystander' type voice, as if he's watching from the outside - but his yells and 'angry/upset' tones were better than a lot of other actors they might have used for Kurama.

And Yusuke is older Dende? o.o I thought he was teenage/adult Gohan. I really need to rewatch the dbz dub. ^_^;;

Another victim of a bad fansub or just a typo?
I wouldn't know. Having only seen the series on CN, I've never seen the words in print/type.

Roger = Spike from Cowboy Bebop

I didn't connect him with Gene, and I find that hard to believe, but it has been awhile since I've seen the series.

Voices

Cloud Clone

I didn't make the connection of Gene to Roger, just the one to Hubb from Wolf's Rain.

The comparison of Gene and Roger I read in a magazine a while back. It made sense I guess since I think Big O started about the time Outlaw Star wrapped up.

I haven't seen Bebop in a while so I didn't think about Spike.

I think Vicious shares his voice with Zeks (no clue how to spell it) from Gundam Wing.

I know Julia has a promonate voice but I can't think of the characters that have it.

Kagome - Inuyasha / The main girl from Hamtaro

Kurama

Found Kurama's Voice

I suspect him of several minor characters' voices but the exact voice I found in a particular character.

Sinistra - Kiddy Grade / Kurama - Yu Yu Hakushou

(The Kurama crazy girls should like Sinistra as well.)

I think the voice of Botan is also Eclair's.

I am not so sure they have the same voice actors, oddly enough.

Eric Vale does the voice of Sinistra.

Colleen Clinkenbeard does the voice of Eclair.

Eric Vale isn't the voice of Kurama. John Burgmeier is. But he (Eric Vale) is in Yu Yu Hakusho, as the voice of Sakyo.

Botan's voice actor is a woman named Cynthia Cranz.

John Burgmeier, eh? That means Kurama shares a voice actor with Tien. o.o I can't reconcile that. Kurama and Tien...what were those dubbers thinking?

BUT!!!

Heh...John Burgmeier is also the voice actor for Shin (aka Supreme Kai) so all is right with the world. ;p

Now I see it - not Tien, but Shin. I just didn't realize Shin and Tien were the same voices (I didn't listen to Tien much in the anime).

I Know, But it Sounds the Same

Post by HeavyMetal » Sun Jun 27, 2004 9:50 pm

Actualy I have a YYH DVD too.

I checked the credits of both before my last post.

I knew they weren't the same voice actors, but the voices were close enough I wondered if it was screw up in the DVD authoring as the other names were mentioned for different characters.

Eric Vale does Sakyou on YYH.

Seriously though the voices sounded so much alike I thought the credits may be wrong.

Just a quick question - is "two shots" part of the YYH manga series, or is it seperate?

Is the manga being released now? Last I heard it had started in Shonen Jump (or some anime magazine). I haven't heard of any actual manga books for the series, but I'd imagine they would tag 'Two Shots' onto the end of one of the books - it's only 12 pages or so. It is a 'short' - not fitting into the actual storyline, so I'm not sure where they'd put it in if they did toss it into one of the books. Maybe in the Dark Tournament around the point where Hiei tells Kuwabara about how he and Kurama came to work together - that would fit as a nice flashback.
