A1: It Haruhi's pantaloons.
A2: Rev. Kyon was visiting the "Church" of Haruhi one day, when a turbulent red flood came and washed away all of the church members and nearly drowned the Rev as well. Rev. Kyon has since retired and become a wise old fisherman who tells tall tales of the red abyss.
A3: It still exists, but ever since Kyon told everyone about the incident, no one has gone near it again.

Q: How does Haruhi respond to no one visting her "church" for an extended period of time?
