Anime Insider has an article about Live Action Eva this month. Explaining about the probable 2010 in the sense that Lotr took about 7 years or something, I can't remember I read it very quickly. Also, it has a nice big picture of the concept designs for the bay with the evas. It looks great....I can't wait...

Also included is Insider's idea of who should be who for the cast. *rolls eyes* except for a few characters I really hope they decide on other people when the real deal comes out.

Anywho. 2006 is a more reasonable date for the movies release, or add campaigne (hah). All I hope for is that the movie doesn't turn into an updated version of the first "Power Rangers" movie.
It would be cool if they made Gendo a giant floating head though.
And make Shinji into a bumbling robot? AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE!!!!!

Anywho, yes, back on topic. For a movie that's going tot ake 7 years, I don't think anyone has anyhting to worry about, I'm sure quality is ensured. Also, LOTR made 3 movies for 3 books, what do you guys suppose the EVA crew will do for 26 episodes is it? You're all worrying about fitting the whole story line into 3 hours, but they may very well make more than one movie. I'm thinking (IMO) they may do something like star wars, start at a high climax point in the series and make a movie or three, and then go back and release the begining later.

According to my mag, they said they want to make a movie that anyone can come see without any previous Eva experience, yet leave them wanting more, they used the example of the Matrix but the guy said not in the sense that they want to come back in 6 months to figure out what the heck is going on. Methinks they imply more than one movie, which makes sense, since as Jace said it will take more than just one movie.

Well with all things said, there'll be the obvious, fans will love it, and the critics will hate it, except for maybe Ebert, since he tends to glorify everything that is anime involved. That and the movie/s will leave us with even more endless debates on NGE than before.

Using the Matrix as an example is a bad thing...I liked the first one, but the other two were sort of...um...lame. ::ducks as the flaming begins::

Sorry, I really just didn't like them. My best friend nearly slaughtered me for it.

They filmed all of LOTR at once...is there a chance they'll do the same for EVA, if they do intend to make more than one movie?

I think many of you are not aware of how little in this project has been developped. This movie is extrememly early on in production.

The movie has no director, the script was written in house by the ADV office as a springboard. They're currently shopping around for a director with said script. If a director has expressed any interest in the project, ADV has failed to mention. The script is in fact a retelling of the story. It is typical movie length and is only a part of the story. They are considering an episodic format, leaving plenty of room for sequels, but without making the first film dependent on the other films to finish it satisfactorily. Think Matrix vs Reloaded & Revolutions. Aside from that, the script is only an idea, and Matt Greenfield stated that it was just a building block, and the film could be completely different, allowing the director to roam creatively. He made a comparison with WETA. He said that they are where Peter Jackson was seven years ago with the Lord of the Rings, and it is possible that we may see the movie in a couple years, or not till 2010. He was realistic, and admitted that it was possible that the film would never see a release, as it really is just an ambition at this point, and ambition isn't neccessarily everything.

So relax everyone, anything you see coming from WETA is essentially a doodle as there is nothing approaching a final script made. There's no Director, no final script or production schedule, no casting, and the film hasn't been greenlighted. In fact, it would be incorrect to consider it a movie, as it is nowhere near that point.

In my opinion ADV dropped the ball, letting word out too early. The hype will die out as people get tired of combing for inconsequential details. Then it will just start piling up as the movie goes into production in a couple years.

As of right now, sit tight, cause you'll be waiting quite awhile

hmm.................. yeah sure........... theres no necessity for a live action version of eva for the characters to look like the anime, come on now, how many girls have you seen with a figure like Rei's or Asuka's ??? hmm? Exactly, they are few and far between, shit, most peoples spine break trying to get a figure like that  , so how the actor look is a minor point, id prefer tham to use nobodies rather than big well known actors......... (thinks to the the likes of star wars, actors no one had basicaly heard of, yet played the part really well!!!!) so looks are imaterial right now..........

True, theres no real director at the moment, yet that doesn't really stop the development, a directors only really neccesary for portraing his view and molding the film in his 'vision', the actual original ideas for how the film will work can still go on........... meh wait till 2010....... shit, ill more than likely be dead by then., but theres no real need to wait that long, some new up and coming ambitious director will pick it up, and it could be the spring board to his entire career.............. but then again, he could just balls it up, and we'll end up with a 'Mortal Kombat' esq film..........

I don't know about you personally, but I see plenty of girls that have figures like Rei or Asuka. Especailly in the 14-18 age range, but you could make almost any healthy person look like that with movie magic, it isn't hard. But I agree on one point, I hope they don't go after big name actors to get viewers, that would be a bad track.
