This is an interesting topic. I work at a dump. Everybody else I work with is married has kids etc. THey have no concept of somebody my age wanting to watch cartoons. I try to joke it off but some people really do have a problem with it. I say fuck them. I like what I like. I wish I was younger than 26 before I got into anime but hey shit happens. Just as you don't like people lambasting you for likeing it don't try to force it on other people.

Everybody has a major issue of some sort with their parents, trust me, haven't you seen "The Breakfast Club"? I'd say my parents are a combination of Bender's and Johnson's parents.

But about anime, I've been teased about anime before, but that was by an old girlfriend in a playful manner, so I guess that doesn't count much anyhow. But among friends and such... not that big of a deal, really. I got some friends who are into anime and some who aren't, but none of us goes as far as having to ridicule each other in what our tastes in entertainment are... although we do berate each other in activites such as driving skills, bowling, pool, fishing, cards, and such.

Yup, we old geezers get into anime (especialy those cute anime girls). Wish I could have gotten into this, oh, 40 year ago. I sometime watch an anime on the computer at my shop, when things are slow. I've had several people, that come in, get interested. :)
A few points, anime is better than drinking, you don't wake up hung over (if you get to bed at all), you don't get DWI, it costs less in the long run.
There are getting to be more parents that think anime is ok, my best times are when the kids come home and we watch some new anime together. :D
When you're about, late high school into college age, you should have some conflicts with your parents, :( it's natural, it helps you to want to get out on your own. It would be bad if no one wanted to leave home.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

My mom hates anime. The stereo typical big eyes creep her out. Plus she's used to my little brother and sister watching the bad stuff on toonami. Thus she believes that all anime has horrible english actors/scrpits and bad plots. I'm hoping to one day make her sit down and watch bebop (the anime that got me hooked). I don;t expect her to become a druggie like me but I think she would like it if she gave it a chance.

My parents have this annoying tendency to walk in at the worst possible moments. Example - when Hellsing was airing on the action channel, my TV in my room chose to break. No big deal, right? I figured I'd just have a chance to watch it on the big screen in the living room. And what happens? Right in the middle of Alucard going all psychadelic-evil-dog, my stepdad walks in. He gave me the weirdest look and just walked away. I think he thinks I'm mentally unstable. I don't like watching anime around my mom, cuz she makes fun of it, which severely pisses me off. My dad is a huge fan of Japanese cinema, so he makes an effort to tolerate it. My brother watches X and Trigun with me.

Funny thing I noticed today - while browsing through my yearbook, I was looking at the "best friends" pages. Two seniors did one together. I sat with one of them at lunch for a year. Did I know that she and her best friend were huge Trigun fans? Nope. At least not until I read their page and saw all the little anime quotes, and I learned that their nicknames were "Milly" and "Meryl" They suited them too, lol.

I remember, sitting in an ice cream shop with three of my friends celebrating a birthday. We're sitting around eating our ice cream, and there's a lull in the conversation, so I decide to share the news about my recent Sailor Moon purchase. Turns out the one person I figured would consider me idiot (though didn't stop me from telling said news) looked at me wide eyed and adamantly asked "WHICH EPISODES!!!???"

I found out that night that she loved Sailor Moon almost as much as I did, to my other friends despair they couldn't shut us up about it for the rest of the night. Moonies_Rule (as some know her) is now one of my best friends. 8)
