[quote="Jace Tsunami"]Escaflowne = KWality

But the begining is kinda slow and boring..... =/
[quote]

I disagree, but then again I'm biased :-P

Although, the beginning does introduce characters, get you into the setting (since on another world), etc. like most shows which could be called "boring" :-P. I call it a standard upward build-up...but again I'm biased :)

It's all little teenage girl stuff. Oh, Hitomi likes this boy! Now Hitomi likes this other Boy!!

OO OO!! What do the cards say!? How popular can Hitomi be by doing Terro card readings!? (sp?)

I think the whole school girl bit is really boring. If I was the director I'd of cut that whole bit out, started with her getting sent to gaia, and then thrown in tibets of information about her past little by little as the series went on, but that's just me. And the whole Finelia thing is kinda boring too. It wasn't boring enough that I didn't enjoy it, but I really couldn't stand to sit through it again if I want to rewatch the series. Too much build up, however I enjoyed when it was finaly under attack.

Well I somewhat agree with you, but I didn't find it unbearable. The thing I think is great about Escaflowne though is that it's very universally likeable. My ex-girlfriend loved all the things you mentioned above, while I probably enjoyed similar things you liked (my guess). It's hard to find someone who doesn't like at least some sub-genre of the show (please don't prove me wrong :-P).

You mean Folken? He's my favorite character in the show and if it weren't for Soujirou in Kenshin, he'd be my favorite. Can't say why since it's spoil a lot though.

Forgot to mention, the reason that it's pronounced Vaughn is because...well...the original translation is just that V-A-U-G-H-N. My friend is a translator for Bandai and did Escaflowne's translation (look for Dave Fleming at the end of the credits). His original translation had Vaughn instead of Van and Vargas instead of Balgus. For some reason they made him change it. I mean Van? That's a vehicle isn't it? And Balgus? A rotten name for a badass.

Off-topic:
Fortunately, his other stuff has been pretty much untouched. I believe he did Outlaw Star, the Big O and probably Lain...unsure on Lain. Perhaps Love Hina? Totally off-topic, but if you want accurate translations in subs, you should watch the stuff he did for Bandai (and other companies). He's my friend, so I'm biased, but he also has a master's in Japanese which is far more than most subtitlers. (cough) guy who did Eva had two years of Japanese and sucked (cough)

I found his black wings and Darth Vader-esque personality cooler :). He had that sort of redemption thing going like Vader. I also liked his "greyness" as a character. When I say "grey" I mean that he's not exactly evil since his goals are good, but his methods are questionable. I like characters that are like that since they are more interesting than GOOD and EVIL.

I like him because of the way he treats Van. It reminds me a lot of how my brother treats me. His goals are ultimetly good, he's very wise, and always looking out for Van.

****SPOILER****

I just see his death as kinda noble, and on the same line with what I said above. He took the hit and did what had to be done so Van wouldn't have to.

And The Artwork is just awsome, he does look very cool lying on the floor.
