Dub-
Sailor Moon: Usagi's wailing was so annoyingly fake (on purpose to assure the kiddies she was okay) that it made me physically ill. It had this up and down opera/theater feel to it, not to mention it hurts the ears. Chibi-usa's english voice was annoying. Twice. I think they switched her va's somewhere in the series - the second one wasn't as annoying, but the first one...it made me hope she got killed in a violent way. I had no sympathy at all for the brat, or her equally bratty and brainless mom.
One Piece: Sanji. He's not Kuwabara. I don't know what the hell made those people pick Sanji as the brainless muscle-man voice character. He's actually one of the smart guys (rare in that anime). They could have given him a girly voice if they wanted him to stand out. That "I'm big and dumb, har har har" voice...who can actually see it coming out of his mouth? I don't know what those people were thinking. I've never heard voice acting as bad as that.
Gundam Wing: Relena. The voice actor was good, but she gave an entirely different portrayal of the character. She was a spoiled stuck up bitch. I hated her with a fiery passion, as did most viewers of the dub-only. It wasn't until I saw the series in Japanese that I finally understood why some people actually liked her. The character is completely the opposite. I never realized how much difference the tone of a va's voice could make in character portrayal.
Japanese:
DBZ: Goku. I had the same reaction the first time I watched Kenshin in Japanese (after hearing the dub), but Kenshin's voice grew on me - like Kurama's. Goku just...what the hell? Same thing with Gohan and Goten. All the Go-guys have this girly annoyingly high-pitched voice. I know that anime lacks the androgynous effeminate characters, so they had to give the girly voices to *someone* - but they could have picked less macho looking men. Or anyone but their main characters. I'm surprised so many guys could listen to that and still think of Goku as a role model. Yeah, I want to be a big macho soprano when I grow up. I actually prefer the dub for this anime, all because of the Go-girls. The only reason I watch the Japanese version is for Vegeta's va (though I like his english va, too, his Japanese va is absolute hotness).
Tsubasa RC: Sakura. I think I dislike the va because I dislike Sakura's character in the anime, so the two are linked. She's all fluffy and sweet, and oh my god is she two? I can handle voices like that for the brainless baby girl characters (like Chii in the anime), but most of the females in TRC are supposed to be intelligent - they still sound dumber than Usagi. That's just not right. Cute, yeah, but not right.
Naruto: Orochimaru. Ew. Maybe that's appropriate since we're supposed to grimace when he's on screen, but it's too much. I think they should have just made him female and had at it. Same thing with Haku - what was the point of making him a boy? The va doesn't even pretend to sound male (like Kurama's or Kenshin's, a female voicing a male character) - it's a female voice all the way, for a character drawn prettier than any of the female characters in the anime. That sort of thing just irks me something awful. >.<
Prince of Tennis: Sakuno. I still don't know what purpose she has in the story, aside from being one of the rare token females. But her voice has no character, it just doesn't. If she had a personality, some inflection that made her sound like a real "schoolgirl" type (think any of the sailor scouts, or the rayearth girls), she could have stood out. As it is, she's just another of those high pitched grating voices with no emotion or point. As rare as females are in the series, and considering she's the main female, they really went the lazy route with her va.

I usually think that Japanese VAs are superior everytime, but that means I usually enjoy the english cast as well. The worst I can possibly think of is the dub of the Yu Yu Hakusho movies. Possibly the absolute worst voice "actors" in the business. I think the worst from that movie are:
Yusuke (Sam Regal I think): He has a decent punk attitude, but since the role requires a lot of screaming when he "screams" it sounds more like shrieking. And it has no feeling in it, it's just a bland ear piercing shriek that goes on and on and on.
Genkai: Easily the worst voice in the entire movie. It sounds like some very untalented woman trying to do an old lady voice and failing horribly. Not only does it not have any feeling whatsoever and she can't act with even reading the lines, when Genkai's battle sequences came up it was just ear shattering and you want to mute that part. "Hi ya!!!!!" say that like a screeching old woman with no feeling. That's about how it was.
Kuwabara: The actual voice for the most part kinda had some of the same feeling as the original Japanese, but that's about it. Couldn't act, sounded like he was trying to hard, and it didn't have any of the humor that the original has or the FUNi one has either. It was just bland.
And as for 4Kids, in general I like their voice actors, I've even heard David Moo (Sanji) in other roles and he's fairly good. Just for some reason the same decent VAs suck major ass in One Piece, it's like far sub-par.
That one who voices that Tashigi I think or something, yeah her voice just plain sucks, in any show. But other than that I think the OP dub just must have a horrible voice director.

*shudders* ditto on that. I in fact blame the terrible dub for me not getting addicted to that show years ago. And Sanji's is the worst (though Luffy in English too, I don't know how anyone could take him seriously, and Usupp's just kinda grated). But the biggest problem with his voice, and one that at least the other bad voices lacked, was it never changed! There was no difference between putting him the moves on and screaming at food-filching Luffy - or at least not enough to make it worthwhile. I mourn for the lost inflection...Arigatomina wrote:One Piece: Sanji. He's not Kuwabara. I don't know what the hell made those people pick Sanji as the brainless muscle-man voice character. When I first heard Richard Ian Cox on Ranma, I thought he made him sound almost homosexual. Not that that is so awful...just doesnt fit the story. Go and listen to the last episode with Sarah Strange (ep 64) then listen to Cox's first (ep 65) and tell me that Ranma doesnt sound goofy and lame. I've gotten used to it now, but I prefer Sarah Strange.

I expected so much of the Naruto anime, after following it so long in jump.... but they butchered it all to hell and made it kiddy friendly.... That sent me into a Super-Sayin-Infinity Pokemon slaughtering rage that explains why Shinji now has mental problems, why Tenchi hates girls, and how many licks it does take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tottsie pop.... 537,234,129.3124122 licks, take that Mr. Owl...

In Naruto...
Haku- He looks like a girl, he ACTS like a girl, and he sounds like a girl... o_o For gods sake, I think it was ment to be on purpose, since in the show, Naruto even mistaked Haku for a girl..
Orochimaru- Does he creep anybody else out besides me? First time I saw him I thought he was gonna sound very different, thats why it mostly creeps me out...
In DBZ...
Freeza- Just.. Creepy...

Umm... Orochimaru is supposed to sound like that. He is kind of hmm evil maybe. I think it's the perfect voice for him.
In DBZ anyone notice that Gohan sounds like a girl in the beginning of the series and it's just so dang annoying.
