Yep, he's not nearly pretty enough - almost a chibi version, it comes off flat compared to the way Arina draws him. She's my favorite dj artist for the way she draws Hiei. But Tide's version of Hiei isn't nearly as bad as some others. I have a few that are nearly shota - they draw him like he's 6 instead of a demon who has the face of a 15 year old (he *does* have a very young face when he's wide-eyed in the series - the ep when he finally finds Yukina and she asks who he is - that's where the 'childlike' face comes from in most djs, his 'startled' young look - it's his extra wide eyes and elfin face shape, along with his small stature).

But as long as they don't give him the shape of a pre-adolescent (he is nicely shaped in the anime, even if he is a little thin at times), I don't mind much. Arina Toshimi is one of the only dj artists who make him look his age - the rest of the ones who draw him as very masculine are the ones making him seme - in which case Kurama tends to look like a slutty redhaired Botan. o.O

I've never seen a single dj where Youko Kurama was uke to Hiei, but I imagine he'd be made into a slutty white-haired 'girl' with a tail and fox ears. It's hard to find a middle ground for any yaoi dj - the ukes will look either childish (overly so) or female - or they'll all be 'FAKE' style men with weird faces and broad bodies.

Plus, keep in mind the djs I've been showing were light ones - there are lemon scenes in Tide's 'Youko' arc, but they aren't explicite. They draw Hiei looking younger because it's funnier that way. I'm just glad he isn't drawn overly effeminate as well as young. I think Fuji Shinichi or Maya are the ones who do the shota little-girl version of Hiei...now that is disturbing. >.< I only have those for how pretty yet not *too* pretty Kurama is done.

You know, it could be argued that your, um, "target hole" is an exit too. How else did we all get here?

Besides, one would also wonder why a person would go into a yaoi thread and start spouting poorly thought out homophobic comments to start with. :P
Not poorly thought out just facts. And don't use politically correct terms here because I am in way shape or form afraid of homos unless a pack of them hovers around looking at my ass. Then I might be afraid.

I'm lost now Pie are we talking about the ear?

no, no

we're talking about the mysterious PIE HOLE

It doesn't really matter - if you guys want to argue sexual orientation, take it somewhere else. This isn't a 'do you think homosexuals are having sex wrong' thread, it's a thread about the yaoi genre in anime. Don't like it, fine - talk about anime. This isn't the place to discuss personal beliefs about which holes dicks should go in. Want to derail a thread and be homophobes? Go find some off-topic forum.

Or start discussing yaoi instead of holes and homosexuality in real life - we're talking about anime here. I admit, I derailed a bit to reply, so I'm just as bad, but continuing it is redundant. You have your views, others have theirs, this isn't 'General Sexuality,' it's 'General Anime.'

Back to anime, please - specifically the topic of this anime thread - yaoi.

Um...was that "hole" discussion really necessary?

No. It was unnecessary. Worse, it was off-topic. Off-topic posts are no longer allowed on this forum. I'd request they be deleted, but the mods would just lock the entire thread instead of editing it. They always do - it's quicker. And they have no reason to keep a yaoi thread when they can just lock it instead.

Well that sux...okay, back to yaoi then!!!

Last I checked, eBay had some good WK doujinshi available, though I haven't seen any YYH stuff yet. It's a pity they don't translate doujinshi...I doubt they intend to. :(

I don't think they *can* translate doujinshi the way they would manga since it's fanwork. I'm not certain of all the legalities of doujinshi in Japan, but I know the artists can only charge enough to reimburse themselves for the supplies used to make the djs - they get no other credit. Book industries (like manga suppliers) wouldn't bother with them - it would be like trying to get fanfiction published in a real book and have *that* translated into different languages for distribution.

Scanlations are the only way to get them - because unless it's official djs (like some yaoi manga artists make), they are just pieces of fanwork that can't be sold legally here, especially not with the added cost of translating them.

Sucks, but it makes sense if you imagine people trying to sell fanfics. o.O
