At the beginning of Episode 9 (the one w/ a synchronized attack ), Kensuke and Toji are selling something at school -- and, from the looks of things, they're going pretty quickly!

The beginning of Episode 2 (broadcast, Episode 4 on the DVDs) is a rather blatant homage to a famous Hollywood movie, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The shot angles, the effects, and most of the scenes are almost identical to opening this film.
