The Balrog. As in, the big bad monster who lent his name to the African-American boxer boss guy in Street Fighter II.Daio Kaji wrote:if i remember, that giant flame monster that was in the tunnels (dwarf palace/city/thing) was pretty bad-ass looking and it moved great

frankly the combination of actual animatronics (sp?) and cg would work very well, depending on the shots needed. Being EVA they'll most definately call up using CG when wanting the EVA's to perform something you can't get a puppet to pull off. Obviously the puppet would be used for scenes that would require less action on screen.
As for LotR...which would you of prefered....a puppet for the Balroc (sp?) or the CG version....frankly my vote would be for the cg version...

uhm..considering that it was made of molten rock...I don't think a puppet would of looked very good...

wouldnt that just burn the puppet to cinders?the Black Monarch wrote:Well, if there were any Angels made of fire, then I guess we wouldn't be having this debate. But what if they made a giant balrog puppet and set it on fire? That would look even better than the CGI...
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

no you'd probably end up with something that looks like the balrog in Bakshi's 1972 LOTR animation ... god was that ever bad ... the balrog and his platform bedroom slippers have born the brunt of many jokes.Jebadia wrote:uhm..considering that it was made of molten rock...I don't think a puppet would of looked very good...

If the movie's gonna stick to the original plot and settings, I think the original nationalities should be maintained. Asuka should be Germanic, and the rest of the cast should be Japanese. Also, they should have the dialogue in Japanese, and subtitle it in English. C'mon, if they were making a live action version of Trigun, they would obviously use American-looking actors. If it were Hellsing, they'd use British-looking actors. Radcliffe as a Japanese EVA pilot and a bunch of Hollywood actors playing Japanese people in a movie that's set in TOKYO (!). That's not very convincing or realistic.
If they're gonna use Hollywood actors, they should set the movie in America, and change all the names to Western-sounding ones, and set the dialogue in English. I'd be OK with that. But if it's a Japanese venture, then they should go all the way, and be, as the song goes, "turning Japanese, I really think so".

Kamegami: What you said just sparked an idea in my head. While this most likely isn't going to happen, there could be a way they could use American actors and have it make sense: Simply tell the story of what happened to the 2nd branch of NERV. It was never really explained in the series, and while there wouldn't be much (or any really), Eva vs. Angel combat, it could still be an interesting story. And it could probably fit into a feature-length film.
I know it won't happen, but I think it's still an interesting idea.

Yeah, I guess. Or they could just disregard the whole anime universe, and pretend like it was happening in America all along. Either way, it doesn't matter so much, as long as they implement consistency with the environment. Radcliffe or Osment playing Shinji just won't fly, unless they set the thing in America or Europe.Gaikotsu wrote:Kamegami: What you said just sparked an idea in my head. i hope you're right (in that this most likely isn't going to happen) because that would make a sucky evangelion movie, not worry of the titleGaikotsu wrote:Kamegami: What you said just sparked an idea in my head. if a movie is going to be made, most important of all is to get the theme of evangelion right, not it's smaller details of characters being of specific ethnic backgrounds, this doesn't come into play in evangelion, it's only background information on the extensiveness of Nerv and Seele (being able to control people in so many places)
Asuka (and the name should stay, i don't wanna have to see her called Sara or anything else, be it american or japanese, it should stay asuka because asuka goes through the shit she went through, not sara) can still have the f-ed up background she did with her mother going insane and her not being able to love her new mother and having to grow up so quickly, it's not too important to make her german, but it might help to ease the fans
