I don't think he will just squash it but he's taken a personal interest in the matter, this will have wide spread economic effects, especially with possible boycotts and cancellations of major events so he's not going to just stand on the sidelines.Sukunai wrote:Video was certainly funny
I hear the PM though, is planning to just squash the bill whether or not Ishy baby likes it or not.

And it looks like all the boycotters of the TAF (i.e. half the industry) are going to hold their own event @ Makuhari Messe the same weekend as a big 'fuck you' to Ishihara.

I see ... i see some people are getting pretty worked up about this. I'm sort of indifferent to it. I don't hate all anime without tits and guns, but i don't love all anime with them. So long as it's original and entertaining, I'll be good.mirkosp wrote:

the anger is not about fanservice being threatened. It's that the rules of the ban are so incredibly vague that they could ban a huge variety of things which have nothing indecent. Anime involving highschool or middleschool students period could possibly be banned because they might have a scene showing a student engaging in "inappropriate behavior". there is no definition of inappropriate behavior so if the censors wanted to be anal they could technically ban a series just for having two students fall in love and having an intimate moment. Think of evangelion the movie for a momentguy07 wrote:I see ... i see some people are getting pretty worked up about this. I'm sort of indifferent to it. and while i'm not a fan of yaoi series, I do feel sorry for fans of BL since ANY homosexual type stuff is now dead and gone.
I don't know how they are going to make another to aru majetsu no index series as it actually breaks just about every rule put down. it's got index (who looks like a middleschooler) who is stripped or found naked by touma every other ep, it's got plenty of highschool boobage shots (also thanks to touma walking in on random girls) and then it's got a lesbian teleporter who is constantly assaulting another girl. This is the perfect example of how a perfectly good series may not be able to be continued simply because it contains a ton of elements that might get it banned.

We ought to be more worried about our own backyard. Almost any anime could be considered to contain child porn under U.S. law. Really, think about your favorite series, and you might find something in there that an overzealous DA could come after you for.
Food for thought.

yep, i remember seeing that article a while back. there are honestly so many legal problems with trying to charge someone for child pornography when it's entirely anime/comics. take dance in the vampire bund for example, the "loli vampire" in it looks like she's about 13 but she's several hundred years old so she's NOT a minor, she's in fact a very senior citizen lol. so if someone had porn of her they really couldnt be arrested for having child pornography. there are tons of loli characters are actually adults but look like children
also, what about the level of detail of the pictures, if i had drawn this picture (i did not draw it btw)
and say it's an underage girl who is naked and in a sexually suggestive pose would i be arrested for creating and distributing child porn?
hell all the author of a hentai featuring children in it has to do is add a footnote at the beginning stating "all characters in this comic are ages 18 and above" and they have just made it police proof. i would love to see a court case arguing that the author does not have the right to make his characters older than they appear hehe, would be hilarious to see the arguments on both sides

That's kind of what already happens in the U.S. when some eroge come over. 19-year-olds in a clearly high school freshman setting? Someone was held back a few times, and that teacher hitting on them is a creep both for going after a student, and a student that has developmental issues. The attempt to make it age-of-acceptable actually made it worse in other ways.Jasta85 wrote:hell all the author of a hentai featuring children in it has to do is add a footnote at the beginning stating "all characters in this comic are ages 18 and above" and they have just made it police proof.
Sometimes it even happens in the original. IIRC, Peace@Pieces was set in some sort of ambiguous high school-slash-college situation I've still not really figured out.
I can see it now: 800-year-old immortals are now legally required to look like the Cryptkeeper. Good luck with that.i would love to see a court case arguing that the author does not have the right to make his characters older than they appear hehe, would be hilarious to see the arguments on both sides

Remember it's ANY character under the age of 18 .... So, even Ikki Tousen (which is sitting on the shelves of my local Best Buy) could get you in trouble; not to mention the legal ramifications for Funimation and Best Buy.
The thing I really hate about the whole thing is that the guy took a plea instead of fighting it, which sets a dangerous precedent. It allows the DA in Iowa to go after other forms of anime (just not lolicon) ...

he probably didn't have good legal representation and maybe the culture in Iowa is very conservative or something. I'm relatively sure that arresting people for cartoon porn is rather low on most law enforcement agencies' priority list.

It's all so much simpler than that. Censorship is censorship. You don't get mad because it threatens something you enjoy, you get mad because it's censorship. You get mad because it's only step 1. That's why the anime and manga companies are boycotting TAF - They are mad that it allows arbitrary censorship (without recourse) based on the whims of whomever is in power. That's an enormously oppressive and uncertain market to operate under.
