Ooh. Good info to know.
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.

Okay, but only because you asked nicely.

Gunbuster 2, I'm guessing.
That would be rather cool. Though admittedly, right about now I'd settle for a domestic DVD release of the original Gunbuster...

Yea I gave Ian that info a while ago - I have the Test Type 01 disc (different than the Newtype sampler disc) and the encode is PURE PROGRESSIVE after coded frame #13 - NO blips anywhere, it's solid. Average video bitrate is 7.9MBits/sec (that's AVERAGE!) and there are two audio tracks, 448Kbit DD5.1 for the new remixed track and 192KBit DD2.0 for the original stereo mix. That means they're damn close to maxing out the bitrate for a good chunk of the show.

Now there is film grain/noise present in a few scenes, and in all of episode 1 there's one point where there's MPEG2 compression noise, probably due to insufficient bitrate in that one spot (they max it out there but it's still not enough). It's the scene where the Entry Plug interface is powering up and the sparkly stuff starts shooting up the tube, very high motion so it's understandable.

Other great news is that with 2 filters I can completely eliminate all of that film grain without losing any picture details. A light conv3d followed by msmooth with small threshold and a strength of just 2 kills all the film noise in the large colored areas and makes them rock solid. I'm talking so solid, I don't think Dup would give me any better.

Maybe I'll post some samples later.
