You're damn right...well on the Saitoh point. I know a lot of people probably don't know half the characters since they haven't seen the shows, but trust me Saitoh is WAY up there. He basically destroys your entire thinking about the hero being strong. He also has this eerie and cool persona no matter the situation...oh yeah and he makes fun of Misao with the Weasel comment haha.

Yeah...if they kept him around well the show wouldn't be very interesting. He could beat the entire Zaibach Army with his 20 foot sword (yeah he puts Gats sword to shame). You gotta kill him so the main characters can deal with the conflict and thus have a story

.

I might also add that this was the reason Folken dies. Once I saw his Black Wings, I was like "Oh! Too cool! You're Dead." Once you reveal that you're an absolute badass, you're dead. I've noticed quite a few shows kill off the non-essential badass characters (sigh).
