I watch my anime in Japanese with subtitles.

However...

Some of the better dubs I can think of include

Spirited Away
Cowboy Bebop (best dub I've heard)
Ranma 1/2
NieA_7

Oh... I do like the new Akira dub... much better than the old one by leaps and bounds!!

Some of the Mononoke dub is good too... but some of it is bad

Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

Though I didn't like it overall, I did really like the fact that in the Eva dub they apparently let Tiffany Grant use some of her knowledge of German to spice up Asuka's lines a bit. I think it made perfect sense for her to be using German expressions given her background.

I really didn't like the dubbing of Tenchi (him, specifically) when it first came out. He sounded like Kermit the Frog (though not nearly as bad as Lum's dad from the Those Obnoxious Aliens dub... *shudder* ). Having seen most of the two TV series that were broadcast on CN over the last few years though, it does sound like it's improved. I'll still always like the original voice cast better, though .

correction ... just about every week somone makes a new thread to bash the trigun dub ... the issue is getting to be old, we know it's terrible ... but is it honestly that bad that every time you see any dubbed trigun you have to start a new thread about it?

I love the Akira dub! I don't get much on my TV, cos I'm in England, so I have to pay for cable channels. From what I have seen, Sailor Moon, at least the earlier stuff, was poor, specially the cat-thingy. Has anyone else noticed that? They always seem to get really confused about how to dub cute animal side-kicks.
Excel Saga was quite hard to follow a times, but I guess that goes with the show!
I really liked the Metropolis dub, for some reason.
I thought that the Ranma1/2 dubs were fantastic. A problem with a lot of them is not unsuitable voices, but poor actors. When they talk so FLATLY it really irritates me.
Meh. I am no expert though.

which dub of akira??? the first one or the second one (easy way to tell them apart, in the latest dub, Tetsuo swears when he falls of the bike)
to true about cutesy characters/animal, we just dont have a clue..
Metropolis, a rare case for me, i actually prefer the dub to the original voice cast (dwchang's gonna crucify me for this), just works better i guess

(starts putting nails in Atomic's hands) :-P

(deducts 10 from my book)

Well...as I've said in many a thread, you're free to like whatever you like. I just hate it when people talk about dubs like they're part of or great than the original creator's intended voices or whatever...like saying it's "better." I mean you can like it more, but by definition a dub is...well...dubbing over the original voices...you lose things. Again, you can prefer enough, but I hate hearing people talk about dubs like they know what the creator wanted.

Bah...look at other threads for my rants :-P

As for good (bearable) dubs:
Cowboy Bebop
Spirited Away
Mononoke Hime

Yeah see...as long as people aren't ignorant and think the dub is well...the original or :gasp: better than what the CREATOR thinks it should be...that's when I have problems. We all have preference as to what sounds better to us, but (as bad as it sounds) there is a RIGHT and WRONG with respect to the creator's vision/voices.

As for it hurting...I think we should keep you up there for awhile...for you to think about it...

Dubs that I liked: The original akira dub, didn't like the 2nd one. 8man after. Ninja Scroll. Street Fighter V. I didn't mind Ghost in the Shell.

When I think of a good dub, I go for if the voice fits that character and how well they act out what the people are saying (emotions, etc).

I don't get all worked up or in a huff about whether it's in dub or sub though. I have problems with both of them. Subs can actually take away from the movie. The best way to me to watch an anime is if you can actually just listen and not read the bottom of the screen. Like Slayers, I can't always pay attention to what's going on cause I keep looking down to see what they are saying. Gasaraki sucked a bit cause there was too much information at the bottom of the screen and it didn't stay long enough, so I was confused for some parts. Then some dubs sound horrible, voices are overly done or just don't fit the character at all.

Kenshin however did it ok, when there was a load of crap Kenshin was mentioning or any character, there wasn't much movement on the screen.
