well if you not going to hunt down fansubs, then i recomend putting RahXephon on the top of your shopping list, you won't regret it.Otohiko wrote:
As for Rah, I've been meaning to watch it, but since my traditional going-broke-at-CNAE ceremony took place on schedule this year, it doesn't look likely. Unless one of my friends gets it.
No matter how hard you try, as long as you have a set of eyes connected to a brain thats not totaly fried and shallow, you'll make lots of connections because they're in there. but that dose not make RahXephon an eva clone.Otohiko wrote: And when I do watch it, I hope to god I don't have the idea of comparing it to Eva in my head.
You'll never know untill you try it out. I thought the same, and i almost consider them equals in my books. But those are my books, and they have no real rellevance to any one besides myself. Well thats all for now.Otohiko wrote: I strongly doubt it'll live up to Eva (in my eyes, anyways).

I just recently went to the local Wal*Mart and happened to see RahXephon. I looked at the summary on the back cover, and the plot sure seems a helluvalotta like eva. It reminds me that the movie The Italian Job is a knockoff of Ocean's Eleven. Sorry but I'm discouraged from seeing it.

IIRC the italian job is older then Oceans eleven. The one that was released a little while ago was a remake of an older version of that film, which was famous for having the best mini chase. I still haven't seen either film, but i've heard that the original is much better then the one that was just released. this one was just made to promote thenew mini cooper apparantly.GoldenGundam wrote:It reminds me that the movie The Italian Job is a knockoff of Ocean's Eleven. Original Italian Job = great. Original & remake Ocean's Eleven = great. Remake Italian Job = most likely suck.
That's about it.

there are definite parallels(i.e. Angels: Dolems, a whole series of them in fact, catastrophe drafts Shinji/ Ayato to fight before he registers what's happening, identity problems with Shinji/Ayato, with the whole psychological themes prevalent)Propyro wrote:RahXephon is not an eva rip off. Mind you, it dose draw from it, it's not a rip off. Watch it and you;ll see that the two shows are very different. the fact that it's two boys who don't like fighting pioloting these massive super powerful "robots" dose not mean that they're exactaly the same.

however, there's the whole issue of racial loyalty, something i don't recall eva covering. one of the biggest things Rah talks abt is blood color, a very feasible form of discrimination in the future, if skin color is such an issue. then there's reality, its established heavily that reality is what it is in eva, while in RahXehphon, that aspect is in question.
its also very artistic, with whole thing abt tuning the world, music pitch, and Ayato is a painter. his muse is that girl in the yellow dress, or seems that way.
its really a different appeal, it does no justice to say how one anime, especially a better than average one, is like another.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
