Hey!

Nice article. Very readable and enjoyable for those readers on the go.

Another thing i'd like to add is that due to the influence of anime, the artwork around many schools in teh local area have been very "animized." Not to say that that's a bad thing, but the artwork has become monotone.

There is a video like your article which comes with the Animatrix DVD. It has old stuff like Gatchaman and Akira and uses it to work into the Animatrix.

I know what you're talking about, Lyrs.

Back in high school whenever I hung out in the art room I'd watch kids draw. If we ever got into a conversation about anime, every kid who claimed he could draw in the anime style drew nothing but DBZ characters. Once out of frustration I brough in some shoujo to show them and they were like, "WTF!? this is anime!?"

What kind of stuff did you show them? Just curious, you know.

I showed them a lot of CLAMP, some Oh My Goddess!, and one japanese Fruits Basket I had. They couldn't get it at all. They were all DBZ whores.

I hope you showed them X/1999 manga where Kamui forsees Kotori getting DECAPITATED ON THE CROSS!
That will shock A LOT of people!

Heh...

Personally, I think saying 'I know how to draw manga-style' is like saying 'I know how to play music-style'.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Sadly no, I didn't have that volume. The one X/1999 volume I showed them was the one that introduced Karen, in her skimpy negligee.

I did, however, show them the last volume of Magic Knight Rayearth where Hikaru is being ripped apart while trying to bring Eagle back with her to Cephiro. That shocked them a bit.

But still, none of them could see past DBZ and Pokemon. It made me so frustrated that I wanted to shake them.

Yes, it is rather disheartening when people close themselves off to new ideas and mediums in favor of the more visible ones. However, I fail to see what is so shocking about someone being torn to shreds in fiction; written or otherwise. It is fairly common nowadays. Although the shock could be due to the drawing style, in this day and age is it really that surprising that such a method of drawing exists?
