real firsts.

Samuri Pizza cats
Dragon balls
Little prince (i think thats what it was called ... little kid who lived on a tiny planet with a volcano he swept like a chiminy)
Transformers ... but i don't even know if thats japanese or not .. all i know is that it's old school.

Firsts
Blood the last vampire (it was an accident ... i was looking for fake snuff and that came up, didn't really phase me as anime, i just thought it was cool)
FLCL - I was aware that this was anime when i watched it. First i got it off kazaa, but episode four finished first ... this is how i learned golden rule #1 ... watch episodes in order. you can guess what happened there.

Just to point out because its starting to annoy me Gi joe,The transformers(the original series) The first two by sunbow and marvel and thundercats are products of american animation not japanese. My first would Be Star blazers when I was 5 but of course I didn't know that was anime. So my first anime that I watched as an anime and liked was Slayers it blew me away literally and that was only 4 years ago.

I was lucky enough to be channel surfing one Saturday morning long ago, when I happened to stumble across Akira. I tuned in right when the motorcycle chase was going on. I vividly remember thinking to myself "Holy shit! That guy just got his head crushed with a pipe!" After that, it would've taken a crowbar weilded by a carnival strong man to pry me away from the TV while that movie was still on.

It was so unlike anything I'd ever seen before, (except perhaps for The Maxx on MTV. Great show, but it was never finished! :( ). From that moment on I was hooked.

The first anime thing i really remember watchiong was kiki's delivery service... though i didn't know it was anime at the time....

I HATED that movie

HATED it.

It's a good thing i didn't know that was anime, or i would have never gotten into it.

Hmm, in the context of the subject line, I was abused as a little boy and didn't know it. My first 'inappropriate touching' was at the hands of Robotech. Then all the other 80's animes that were around. I was young and naive so I didn't think of it as what it was. (I didn't know it was from Japan.) This stopped when those shows went off the air and I really didn't think much of it or go seeking more. I was innocent for several years.

Then when I was 14 and going through puberty, my friend 'experimented' with me and I saw Ranma 1/2. I have since then been very active.

Yes, but they are otherwise indistinguishable from the Japanese product, Takara.
