heh ... that picture ... the writing in the corner says it's Glorfindle and the Balrog. I believe that fight took place during the silmarilion, making Glorfinlde one of the few, non-godly beings to kill a balrog since i believe he lives to be in the lord of the rings books.but mmy tolkien is rusty ... i could be wrong.

I generally prefer subs--the reasons have pretty much all been brought up already. I can really watch most series either way, though. And some--Cowboy Bebop, for example--are better dubbed.

The other time I like to watch things dubbed are when the series is incredibly confusing or very fast. Most scenes move slowly enough that I can both read the subs and watch the show at the same time; on the other hand, with FLCL, for example, it moved way too fast a lot of times to really see the scene and read the text and understand it all--that, and it's confusing enough as it is anyway. Eventually I'd like to watch it subtitled (Propyro sez that Haruko's character was built around the seiyuu), but I'm glad I watched it in English a couple of times on CN--much easier to understand.

Propyro was right (to some extent); Tsurumaki-san talks about that in the director's commentary. (Mayumi Shintani also did the voice of Tsubasa Shibahime in Kare Kano.)

I love the FLCL dub, personally; the only problem is that Synch-Point, for some stupid reason, didn't hard-sub the on-screen text and signs in the first two episodes. So you lose those unless you're watching it subbed.

I think I'm also more likely to watch series subbed the first time through, unless I can't get a subbed version for some reason. Exceptions: Trigun and Hellsing, but only because that's how the animé club decided to watch them, and besides, those two dub jobs are generally good.

VHD:Bloodlust was dubbed in english first! How can anyone honestly watch a subbed version of VHD:Bloodlust is beyond me.

Honestly when I was first getting into anime I was expecting most all dubs to be horrid, horrid things from what people around her said about them.....Yeah, they're not, most of them are good, to wowza. Nothing at all like the Thundercat like job I was expecting.

Hellsing and FLCL both have good dubs, i exspecialy like how pioneer used british VA's (or VA that can fake a british accent well) for hellsing. But nomatter how good a Dub is ... i just like the subs.

Cowboy bebop was a pretty good dub, but i love spikes japanese voice. and i don't think any one can get FLCL right in any other language ... exspecialy Haruko's voice.

though there were some things in the Hellsing sub i found funny, when Alucard kicks down the door to the church in teh first episode and calls teh preist/vampire a punk ... it pretty much sounds like "PAUUUUUUNNNKKA!" ... i can picture some 70 year old japanese guy doing the same thing ... minus kicking down the door. Bet besides ... i still like it ... the dub's VA dosn't sound as dark as the japanese VA to me ... but i've only seen one ep dubbed.

meh ... my $0.02 ... your free to watch and like what ever you want ...

Actually, now that I'm used to it, I prefer Dave Lucas's version of Spike. Part of it is the fact that, in general, I think Bebop's more of a culturally American show rather than a culturally Japanese one, and Dave Lucas captures that quite well. (Okay, yes, they use chopsticks and eat ramen. But the way the characters behave towards one another is definitely more Western in influence than Eastern.)

Dubbed.

I don't know if it's just me, but I would rather watch an Anime that read one. If I want to read, I'll buy a Book. It's just that whenever I try watching subs, I find myself pausing the DVD just so I can read and look at what's happening. Now have any of you guys tried watching Excel Saga subbed? Well I tried and gave up after about 5 minutes. I can see why the purists like subs, but I'm not going to fork out $30 for a DVD just to read it. If I was going to do that I may as well buy fan-subs. The English Voice Actors are doing a really good job now days so I can't see any good reason as to why you would need to buy a DVD just to watch them subbed.
