Anyone asking this question is either gay or a feminist ugly bitch. Women in anime are drawn so that I may wack. I spend my money so that I may wack. If these feminists think its degrading maybe they should give me some then I wouldnt need the anime to wack to'

Yeah, showing good looking women in anime is degrading! All anime women should be fat and stupid, so that real women won't think they have to be well off physically & mentally to get a date.

other then that i agree with you.
I tend to be sexist just for the fun of it (calling my mom women and saying wheres my food, hitting girls playfully, etc) but all for fun and they know it is.
But there's this feminist I know who hates my guts so much I won't be the least surprised she will bring a gun to shoot me only.

Thanks Arigotomyna, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Women occupy a secondary postion in anime. Even when given power they are ultimately subjugated under a guy--for example, Belldandy is a "Goddess First Class", but she is virtually under the control of a nerdy weakling.
It's like I said about Love Hina--there's a lot of wish-fufillment going on. Perhaps what your sister means about the exaggerated features of anime women is that these super-foxy, super-powerful women nearly always end up second-place to a nerdy, wimpy, unattractive guy. Keitaro? C'mon--he's no prime catch. The formula for lots of anime is to make A+ girls fall hopelessly in love with D- guys. It's for the "otaku" who eat this stuff up in Japan . . . *sigh* And there's some mother issues going on there . . .
Anyway, caution before throwing around that "all feminists are ugly" stereotype--smacks of misogyny, that one.

Don't you hate it when people describe something as "cute" when they really mean "God, I want to fuck that"?

That could potentially get you in legal trouble one day if you're not careful...The Hitokiri Battousai wrote:hitting girls playfully, etc
Back on-topic, though in general I ignore it, fanservice bothers me. I mean, when almost every powerful female in anime is an unrealistically thin woman with unrealistically large breasts... uhm, no, that's not reality. Not that anime is supposed to be realistic. But there are some things I find it impossible to believe. Example: Chobits. I saw the ep six months ago so I don't remember all the details, but there's this one really short girl at one shop--seriously, she's maybe in middle school, I think, and probably no taller than 4'5"--and she announces that she wears D-cups (that means she's got huge boobies, for those of you ignorant of bra sizes). Seriously, now, only plastic surgery could accomplish a feat like that--and breasts that big would give her major back problems later.
The bigger problem than having the stars of the show as ultra sexy is that, a lot of times, every female in the series is in perfect shape and has enormous... tracts of land. They're all incredibly beautiful. In Rurouni Kenshin, Yahiko calls Kaoru ugly a lot, but even if she's not the most beautiful of all the females in the series, she's still "easy on the eyes," as it were. And maybe in Japan people are healthier than in America, but whereas there tends to be variety in how males look, almost all females are knockouts. Cowboy Bebop is an exception to a certain degree; despite the existence of Faye there is little to no sex in the series and she uses her body to attempt to gain power (though it usually ends up badly for her); beyond that, you've got female truck drivers, or you've got Annie (overweight, but she holds her own). Even people walking down the street are varied.
*shrug* I guess, though, that this isn't just a problem with anime. Turn on mainstream television or go to the movies sometime and you'll find that women are, about 80% of the time, beautiful. But then, this is the Barbie era. Though women may kick major booty, they're still first and foremost sex objects.

See, that's why I LOVE Cowboy Bebop.
I was pretty much going to say the same thing as Trident -- female characters in anime may be portrayed as stereotypical, but if you turn on the television to any show -- anime, cartoon, reality, sitcom, drama, anything -- you'll find a variety of man-types, but only one sort of woman -- the beautiful, thin, busty, size 3-6 woman. Even television MOMs look like that -- I mean, even moms who have had over three children. That's got to be a act of God right there.
I'm a female myself, but the anime stereotypes never really bothered me so much before, perhaps for two reasons 1) you see the stereotypes elsewhere, and eventually you sigh and watch without complaining (if you're not a feminist, that is) and 2) anime women are much more often given power than women in regular television shows. I mean, watch most sitcoms or dramas or whatever, and women are second-class citizens -- not the doctor but the nurse; not the lawyer but the secretary, and if they are the doctor or the lawyer, they're sex symbols (like Ally McBeal or such nonsense.)
Anime has a whole "magical girl" subset -- Sailor Moon, Shoujo Kakumei Utena, Magic Knight Rayearth, etc -- and even if a series isn't necessarily a magical girl series, there's usually an important female, like Lina in Slayers or something like that. Anime females tend to be portrayed in a stronger light in my opinion than those inane reality shows females. Sure, they're all like 5'7" and 100 lbs, and therefore anorexic, but at least the anime girls have POWER and aren't spending their time picking men out of a group of 20 to break up with two weeks after the cameras stop rolling.
Anime women also tend to be treated better by anime males, but before I chew everyone's ear off, I'm going to end this post
