I'm not even going to go into how freaking inappropriate that was. There is no requirement to join the priesthood that you have to be straight,
Really? Are you sure about that? Catholicism supports the bible, you know, the old Soddom and Gumora (sp) sin. It's one of the reasons they supported Bush in banning gay marriages. In fact, most of Christianity is against it including United Methodist (speaking from experience), Babtist (my cousin's word, I believe him), and I'm sure there are more.
and just because there are a few idiots who screw up and do something dumb doens't mean people have to assume all priests are gay and perverted.
Exactly. Might as well ask how many male guards in prison are gay - the ones trying to protect and serve their community. The only reason priests are 'taboo' is because their religion makes it such a heinous sin, aside from the crime against the victims, just the homosexuality is bad if acted upon because it makes the church look bad.
It'd be nice if this could remain an on-topic post.
Yami no Matsuei, the manga that became the anime. It has an arc about a Catholic priest that would tie right into Lyrs' comment, so in a way, it's as on-topic as the original few posts about the source of yaoi in Japan. Of course, that particular arc is twisted with the usual demon involvement that makes that series, but it's still focusing on one of the taboos. Can't be helped.

Yeah...I suppose that's true...I seriously love YnM too.

A lot of branches of Christianity are seriously anti-gay, but in my entire Catholic school education I've never had a teacher/religious leader say "Gays are evil!" because the Catholic religion is all about tolerance these days, apparently.

Yeah, YnM rocks. :)

You're lucky then, some of friends have been told they're going to hell because of the clothes they wear.

/end off topic

on topic:

What is YnM about? My friend's been bugging me to watch it.

It's about two shinigamis (or gods of death) named Tsuzuki and Hisoka who work at the Summons Division of this organization that deals with deaths on Earth and the spirit world...I don't want to say much cuz it'll spoil it, but I loved it!!!!! :D

It's two afterlife detectives protecting people from demons and evil people. (Holy oversimplification, Batman!)

However, one of the evil people is attracted to one of the detectives, which is where the fun begins.

Plus it's angsty as all get out, which is always a plus.
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

Sounds lame.

Read the manga. ^.~ It's actually rather cute at times, then darkly perverted, then plain bloody angst, into the rather blatant yaoi, back to the cuteness, into the action, back down to the bloody angst....

It goes all over the place. ^_^ The anime just catches a hint of the cuteness and a good portion of the blood, angst, and yaoi.

I don't know what's more amusing...the fact that J doesn't like yaoi/shonen-ai yet keeps coming into said threads or the fact that we all seem to be trying to convert him...
