I think that answers for me. Great classical recordings and good thematic music.
The main theme from Kare Kano is beautiful and fits the series well in all of its different versions and speeds, on different instruments.
Noir has two or three good pieces of music that they use to the point where I'm sick of them now.
The Cowboy Bebop movie and, to a lesser extent, series.
And that series with Backstreet Boys intros and outros, of course >_>
( )
PS.- That's not a joke. There really is an anime with Backstreet Boys music for intros and outros.

All of the above have great music, especially the classical music from Eva and Tsukihime has amazing music throughout.

Turn A Gundam...some of Kanno's most underrated work...UncleMilo wrote:Anything with music by Yoko Kano...
The music for Cowboy Bebop, the music for Macross Plus, the music for Escaflowne... all just amazing work by this very goofy woman. (I say that because it was mentioned in an interview that Yoko Kano was the inspiration of the character of Ed in Cowboy Bebop)
Anyways...I'm once again gonna blow mine on a split minority vote:
Best that works with the anime - Char's Counterattack
Best all-around - From what I've heard of it so far, I'd say Macross 7
(Also some acknowledgement for Berserk...sure the opening is 'eh' and the closing is 'My God, it burns!'...but the rest is quite good)

Cowboy Bepop of course, DBZ, Excel Saga, and Evangelion (greatest of the anime themes)
American and Anime shows can be amazing...and they can suck in equal measure, neither is superior to the other.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE PERFECT CARTOON, OR THE PERFECT ANIME, BOTH HAVE POSITVES AND NEGATIVES.
