Whoa, good ol' doki doki ducked in here.
Anyway, not too many people are taking your request seriously. If you ask me, you should refer to the "top 30 anime" section in the members menu. There are some good animes that have been left off this list, and there is some real crap that made the list, but it does represent as good an indicator as any I have ever seen of what is popular and well liked.
The 3 best made animes I have ever seen are:
Neon Genesis Evangelion
The Vision of Escaflowne
Cowboy Bebop
My top 4 favorite animes that I personally enjoyed are:
Ranma 1/2
Inuyasha
Full Metal Panic
Love Hina
What it really comes down to is an issue of taste, some people love Eva, others loathe it. Same goes for Love Hina.
So without knowing what kind of taste you have, I would suggest these animes, as they are well liked in general and are disliked by few people.
1.) Cowboy Bebop: I like this show less than almost everyone, and I think its a top ten anime.
2.) Kenshin: I thought this show was O.K., barely worth watching, but everyone else loves it. I've never really heard anyone bash it.
3.) Trigun: Much like Kenshin, I thought this show was alright, I felt it was a big letdown, but everyone else loves it! I think you probably will too.
4.) Outlaw Star: This is the prototype shonen anime. There have been many great shonen animes before and after this one but none have mixed all the elements of shonen anime as well as this one has. Great fun from start to finish.
5.) Ranma 1/2: A nice mix of 80's, love, gender bending, and surprisingly well done martial arts. Its goofy and lovable, and once it gets going it has surprising emotional depth. One of the best cast of characters in any anime. Rumiko Takahashi's most successful anime (at least it was before Inu Yasha).
6.) Escaflowne: A well made mecha anime that appeals even to those like me who hate mecha anime. Probably a tie with Eva for the most epic anime ever produced. Great soundtrack.
7.) Inuyasha: A feudal anime that has more lore and fairy tail aspects than any other good anime I have seen (in that respect it kind of reminds me of Escaflowne). It has great characters, and a storyline that ranges from childish to steeply mature. I really got into the story/characters of this anime, but most people simply enjoy it for its (cheesy) action.
Other "risky" ones.
Evangelion: Very hard to completely understand, although its all there if you look for it. Many people hate this show for how it ended (the creator ever got death threats), I love this show, its way up there, but I'll admit it takes some work to understand it.
FLCL: Visually brilliant, extremely original, a masterwork. Its also strange and to some people like myself, not funny. However, most anime fans found it hilarious. If you like random humor or just plain randomness you will love this anime, otherwise you might hate it.
Excel Saga: An extremely high energy comedy which mixes satire, spoofs and complete inexplicable randomness. When this show is funny, its hilarious, when its not it seems desperate, as if its gasping for air. A lot of people love this show, but like FLCL, its humor can miss the mark too much to be funny for some.
DBZ: Certain people love this show beyond reason. Its probably got the most incredible cult following of any anime. Watch a few episodes before you judge it as crap (I personally think its crap, but hey), it might be your cup of tea.
Love Hina: This used to be my favorite anime. For some this show is hilarious and awesome, but to others the show seems degrading to women and cheap. Its another love it or hate it anime, but its generally more loved than hated.
.Hack//Sign, X-tv, Noir, et al: These are very slow developing animes that are easy to dismiss early as crap. None of these animes ever really make up for their slow starts, but they become barely worth watching in the end, if you can endure all of the slow episodes. Most people dislike slow animes, so I'll only recommend these if you can pledge to yourself that you will finish them once you get started.

its not that its expensive its coz... well i tryed to buy Full metal panic last weekend and it'll cost me about £80 to get volume 1 to 5... times that by 2 and thats whateva it is in Dollers... so $160 ish. But when i go to Stores and ask " hey have u got FMP " they all say " Nope sorry all sold out and we dont know when we're gettin more in" ~_~'.... Animes not realy big in the part of the UK im from so they dont realy stock up on it. so its alot easyer to get it imported from the US or some were and alot cheaper. ^_^ryuu_hime13 wrote:Hey, I have a question - is anime in the UK very expensive?
