FLCL

I saw it on toonami (TV station plays mostly bad anime) late one night, and I thought "Sweet, they're playing FLCL" then Haruko started speaking and I literally fell to my kness. It was that bad.
Toonami only refers to Cartoon Network's afternoon anime showings, last I checked. You're probably thinking of Adult Swim.

I actually liked that dub a lot (though no one will ever be a better Haruko than Mayumi Shintani)... come to think of it, I haven't seen enough dubbed anime yet to have come across one I didn't like.

cardcaptors

Post by Aussie_angel5 » Sat Mar 06, 2004 10:43 pm

I would have to say Cardcaptors. I haven't seen the original version, but I have heard and know some of the things they have changed and cut from it. I wasn't happy at all. Why can't they just keep things the way they originally were?! In any anime for that matter.

I'm with you on that one. They took a decent story line (this is CLAMP wer're talking about here) and totally changed it into pseudo incomprehensibility. Oddly the voices 'mostly' were ok, but why change a good story?

A nice page here compares the two.

I didn't. I said it was destructive to the source material, i.e., the most dramatic step downward in quality of material being presented. Drama became melodrama and tragedy became comedy.

Myself, I would have to go with Cardcaptors. At one point, I watched it and thought it was pretty good. Except for the sparce confusing part and poor voice expression, it wasn't too bad. But then I witnessed the original Card Captor Sakura and was shocked at the differences. My shocks were more towards the plot and scenes, than the voice acting. I just couldn't believe how much was removed, many of which seemed perfectly innocent. Like all the chibi scenes. Don't we all love a cute scene with a super-deform character? It was like anything abrupt they had to get rid of. -_-

O, Knights of the Zodiac is really bad dubbed, it's HORRIBLE!!!! God they even changed the name from Saint Seiya to KOTZ, but it's so bad, like I watched it last night, it's old school, and I love it, but it's REALLY bad dubbed.

Love Hina. The Love Hina english dub is frightfully apalling. I remember when I bout the DVDs oh-so-long ago, and thought "now lets see what this dub is like" and when the chars started speaking, I just about fell over in disgust, and scrambled for the remote. Had I not found it, I was perfectly prepared to throw my boot at the television.

Kitsune's voice is waaaaay overdone, Kaolla's voice is a fucking pigeonholing (stereotyping) if I ever saw one, Motoko's voice is way too mature, and Mutsumi and Narusegawa's voices are just plain shit. They remove the majority of the jokes (good example-Naru launches Keitaro down the hallway, he hits the wall and slides to the floor, where he says... "Pink... I mean ouch!" in japanese [in relation to narus pantie colour]. In english he says "So thats what if feels like to hold a girls hand". Ugh...*shudder ) and replace them with something that cant even qualify as humour.

Although, it was dubbed by the same people who did Sailor Moon, so that explains the level of suckage.

This isn't anime but the worst dub I've ever seen is of the Jacki Chan film Armour of God 2.
Its a real pitty you all aren't as great as me.
I guess thats the way the cookie crumbles.
