The only things that I think an anime store should have is
1)anime of all sorts
2)manga of all sorts
3)anime and video game related magazines
4)anime music soundtracks
5)and artbooks

that's pretty much it, all the other stuff like dolls, keychains, and posters are rather useless. Your friend can put that other stuff in his store when it finds some success. But when starting out, those five listed are the essentials.

no prob bob

Also

of course you should automatically have varied anime titles, but also, i think it'd be a great idea if you ORGANIZED and SORTED them

Children
Mature Audiences
Action
Drama
Comedy
Adult... yes, it's everything that is implied!!

i think it's kinda almost insulting in a way when you go to a video store and see all the sections for regular films, but Anime is generally all under Anime... or Kids

US for the most part is just barely starting to realize the depth that certain Anime really have and it'd be nice if you sorted them respectfully on the shelves... manga can be on the manga rack, they're small :D

i don't think that'd be a good idea... what with spoilers and all, but actually, maybe if they only played the 1st or 2nd episode it'd be okay, but nothing close to the end, i'd get mad and not buy the show

if you're gonna have merchandise, how about japanese imports of games that were never released in US, that'd definately bring in the big bucks from collectors IMO
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

My anime store has back issues too, which is awesome.

As for that TV thing that a few people have mentioned...there's always some anime playing when I go there. Last time it was the live-action Sailor Moon, which really startled me. I walk in and see some live-action thing on the TV...I think "Probably some action movie or something"...I'm browsing and suddenly I hear "Sailor Moon! [insert random Japanese dialogue here]" Definitely surprising.

It would be cool if it were possible to buy AMVs on DVD disks...just a thought.
