Actually, I don't think Dark Materials would do that well as an anime. And yes, they are making a live action movie of it. (I don't have a lot of faith in that either though.)
Ender's Game would be good though, and you could do the other books in the series as other seasons. Thing is, a lot of existing shows draw from ender's game ideas, so it might be a bit cliched, even if it came first.
The Shannara series by Terry Brooks might work.
What I'd love to see done in some medium is Pern. I think if they did a good job on the dragons, it could come off really well.

what's ender's game about?
I haven't read Ender's game, what's it about? It sems to be very popular.
I have already said that The Discworld series would make a pretty good anime. Especially The Nightguard series and Rincewind's series. There are a lot of other characters out there but these two series would suit most perfectly since there are more books about them...
In fact has anyone heard or read Terry Pratchett?

HELL YEAH!!!
I wonder if someone pitched that idea to an awesome animator or animation company they would do. Like the one that created cowboy bebop. Hmmm...

Re: what's ender's game about?
Ender's Game is about a kid named Ender who is trained to annihilate an alien species of bee-like creatures. That's about the simplest explanation for a very complex character and series (there are three more books tracing Ender and his sister Valentine, and currently three more "parallel" books about some of his friends). It's an excellent series, but I will warn you--the sequels tend to be more philosophical and biological in nature, so though I recommend them, don't expect them to be as action-packed as the original book. Go for the parallel series (Ender's Shadow etc.) for that.cilu wrote:I haven't read Ender's game, what's it about? It sems to be very popular.
I actually think that Ender's Game would make a good live action Hollywood blockbuster. The only reason I'd suggest it as an anime over a live movie is that it would be hard to find that many kids who could act that well...

I thought those were already animated? Or are the animes completely different from the mangas ( haven't seen the animes or read the mangas, so I don't know if their storylines are completely different from each other).HeartbreakerByZep wrote:Oh man, since Graphic Novels count as books - Kare Kano and Berserk.

Yeah, the books give all the background story of Master Chief all the way back to when he was a kid. He was created to be the perfect soldier.Personally, I'd like to see the Halo books animated. The game is awesome but the books tell so much more story, it would be cool to see it all turned into a series.
