Do think anime is looked down upon?

I've never been looked down upon for being into anime, and I've been into it for quite a few years. I was actually hired at Suncoast recently because they needed someone who was an anime fan

I'm with you angieness on that one.
I haven't really been look down upon but facing severe ignorance is just as bad.
Um maybe I'll for a job at Suncoast, they seriously need me there.
Rejecting someone because of their likes is just dumb and useless.

it heppens to me all the time...almost all of the stuff you have mentioned
my location is so annoying when it comes to anime
cause there is NO anime
and i mean NO anime they got some childish animes like DBZ and stuff
and that's it
they had cowboy bebop on TV once and that is all the good animes they've had on air
i can't animes in stores and i can't watch it on TV
ordering from other places also sucks because of the taxes

but you can find some bootlegs if you look really hard
you all don't even know what "look down upon" is!

i was reading a manga.. and this nerdy kid comes up to me.. " oh you like that japanese porn? they have books too?"

and i found him reading a star trek book thingy and i was like.. "oh, you like that alien porn?" and then he's like. "it's not porn!!" and he screams like a girl and tries to slap me..

For me, if the subject comes up and turns to ridiclule towards me I just say either "I don't care what you think", or "Congradulations you have an opinion too."

That's never come up though. Most people I talk to about it like it too.

i think there is a secret group out to put down anime. thay think if we start liking anime we will start to like japan and show less support of there nations, so there goal is to put it down at all costs.

people i talk to say stuff like

co-worker "hay, whats this anime stuff ross is into too?"

other co-worker " it japanese pron"

ross "no, its not porn. it is a form of art mastered by the japanese"

co-work "you should not watch porn, ross"

ross "i said its not porn but a form of animation"

other co-work "if you watch to much of that porn it will warp your mind"

ross ''do you understanding the words coming out of my mouth? i think your the ones watching to much porn!"

co-worker "what ever, cartoon porn freak"

ross " thats it! im getting my smitting stick! you bi***s got to learn to repect anime! DIE!, WINGLESS DEMONS!!!"

boss "quit smitting people and get back to work... and ross, leave the cartoon porn alone..."

Trying to explain anime to someone is kinda hard, I mean you mention it's animated and they automatically think it's a cartoon, and directly associate that with wacky humour.

Well that's in general over here I find.

I plan on showing some of the nice amv's from this very site, of the "shocking" animes. Just something to grab their attention for a minute or so to show them not all animation is wacky humour aimed at kids.

I realise showing short amvs of shocking stuff (thinking of high action/violence serious stuff here, generally anything that you won't find in a cartoon) isn't necassarilly the best way to go about introducing them to anime, but I'm gonna give it a go and see what response I get.
