Noir Ending Thoughts (spoilerific)

Hi,
the ending of Noir really hit me bad. I had just stumbled accidently over Noir while zapping through the programms late at night, while being tired not so tired to sleep already. I started somewhere in episode 3, fortunately the other episodes got repeated so i slowly got sucked in. In fact i really didn't notice how fond i was of Kirika and Mireille before the ending happend. They walked away, finally together, after enduring so much pain and vanished in the darkness. Perfect.
Bamm, bamm.
Being half asleep i first thought i just dreamed those shots. Then i had to wait for a week before the episode was repeated and then it was clear. Two shots. Unbelievable. The pain that these shots envoked told me how much i obviously loved the charcters. Something i wasn't aware of beforehand. I couldn' sleep for about a week. So i cruised the web for information about a sequel, which would be proof that they lived. But unfortunately it looks like there will be no sequel. I found many forums discussing this matter with no conclusive result, i ran into some Noir-AMV, that i thought could be episodes that i hadn't seen and therefor discovered this site and the whole AMV-genre.
