Okay lets see, Kei and Shinji both have the combed down plain loser/loner hair style given anime characters of their nature. Both are surrounded by a mixture of strange and volatile women.
Both are the thin somewhat weak and struggling male character. Their eyes, eyebrows, and noses have similar designs. They even have a similar posture at times. The whole of their designs portray unsure, timid, and often emotionally confused characters.
Look beyond artistic style to character design and what the design is supposed to portray.
Am I blind?
No. I simply see more. I can see how the look and movement of a character is used to portray their personality. The way in which artists bring characters to life by making them match or contrast who they are physically with who they are mentally.
Not everything is plain to see. It is you who cannot see beyond your own views.
Why is there always some hapless noob who feels he needs to defend his own point rather than admit that he might be wrong?
On terms of character design, they're nothing alike.
On terms of personality and general peers and company, they are ALSO nothing alike. Lets do the list:
Kei: has a great relationship with his friends, his aunt and uncle, his wife (with the normal stresses expected of course), is smart, posesses a relatively high degree of self-esteem and conviction, and is liked by people. Makes his own decisions and accepts the consequences.
Shinji: hates his dad. His mom is dead. He's fallen in love with a vindctive semi-psychopathic bitch. He's a wimp. He's a colossal loser. He's sexually repressed. He sooked around while he could have been helping out, thus resulting in the deaths of countless hundreds and god knows how much property damage. He wallows in self-pity. He makes mountains out of molehills. He makes stupid decisions and blames everyone else for his problems that caused the stupidity. He posesses no self-worth, but he chose that himself. He relies on others to direct him, bitches about how he hates that and hates himself, but is "too scared" to change anything.
Basically, Kusanagi Kei is a pretty average 18 year old boy. Ikari Shinji is what most people like to call SEVERELY FUCKED UP AND LOVING IT.
They are therefore unalike in design, ilk, or personality.
