Char for sure. I mean, he's Char. For most of Gundam, he's pretty much a powerful pawn of Zeon, but he even switches sides when he doesn't like what his commanders are doing. Char definitely has his own ideals and that's why I like him.
Gendo - enough said. Only character I liked in Eva
Dom from Tylor. Dark and serious, but very compassionate. He may have been a fairly low ranking cruiser captain, but he almost always knows what to do and the simple fact he has respect for his enemy and sees Tylors hidden genius is commendable.
Alex Rosewater (Big O) - I just really liked his character. At first, he seems like a good leader who lacks some morality, but once you find out the truth about him in the second season, you start to see how sick and twisted this man really is. I mean, he even tried to kill his own senile father.

I'm not really sure you can call him a pawn, per se...even when he's fighting under the Zabi flag, he's still just using it as a means to get close enough to strike at them. He's not so much a pawn as a very subtle puppet-master, and frequently tends to play people to his own advantages (examples: *some possible spoilage, so, for good measure* luring Garma to his death in NY, working his way into Kishiria's good graces in the Newtype corps, then beheading her with a bazooka at A Baoa Qu, playing father figure to Quess Paraya in CCA so he can make her into his own little pig-tailed murder machine (he even flat-out admits he used her as a tool.))generalhs wrote:Char for sure. The man may take orders from them, yes, but that's so that he can gain their trust. He even tells Sayla the main reason he's fighting in Zeon is so he can get close enough to the Zabis to kill them and thus avenge their father. So, while he does put up the front of being a low man on the totem pole, he's got a lot more influence than that.
In short, he only plays by the rules when he stands to benefit from it...again, not so much pawn as player.

Since I have recently finished watching GTO, I would like to add these two.
Urumi Kanzaki and Miyabi Aizawa, two ruthless and cunning girls. I wouldn't want to cross either of them. Of the two, Urumi is the most frightening, if you watch the series, in one of the late episodes you will see what I mean.

Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Younger Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho, he has that something that makes him stand out from other villians in most animes.
Usui from Rurouni Kenshin, he's just pure evil
