Some more trivia for the pile:

-During the final battle in 'Macross: Do You Remember Love?' (more specifically, the scene when Hikaru fires off several of his missiles inside Bodolza's fortress) if you look carefully, you can spot a sake flask and a can of Budweiser amongst the explosives

-The OVA 'Getter Robo: Armageddon' makes several nods to U.S. sci-fi titles (ex. an arctic team research member named 'McCreedy' like the protagonist in 'The Thing', one panel showing the registration number on Hayato's Tower to be NCC-1701F (a nod to the Enterprise line from Star Trek.))

-The opening credits sequence of Mazinger Z movie 1 contains several pieces of fanart made by some of the series' younger viewers

...that's some of the more unique ones I can remember for now...got others, they're just not firing ATM

not that iv never seen it but gundamn was created to sell toy robots to kids.

more of an interesting bit of into: grave of fireflys has a lot of similairtys between the directors story of world war 2.

Goku from Dragon Ball is based on Chinese legenand. About some monkey-boy. In Love Hina the characters act out that legenend when they are at the beach.

The legend is Xiyugi (journey to the west) and the legend is fairly famous, Saiyuki is also a reenactmentof that legend.
