True enough. I haven't watched a lot of it... only fifteen episodes.

However, I still don't like the show and will defend my dislike, because heck, it's fifteen episodes. It's a lot more episodes than what some other series have in total.

My chief general complaint is that it's a typical mindless shounen fighting show. Now, none of these things taken alone (or even together) would have turned me off on the show per se. (I know I watch a lot of typical mindless magical girl shows.) However, it just doesn't interest me. This is highly subjective, I admit, but Naruto is just not fun to watch for me.

Possibly this is because I haven't read the manga, and I'm not going to spend my money on something I won't enjoy. (Almost every Naruto fan I've met who bothers to explain why they like it has also read the manga, and has suggested that my non-enjoyment is tied to my non-manga-reading.)

Another reason could be that the characters, after fifteen episodes and ample time to give the ones introduced in the first three some personality, simply aren't interesting. When the ninja techniques have more character than the poeple who use them, there's something very wrong there. The show concentrates (in that fifteen episodes) on Naruto and Sasuke, which leaves Sakura, the somewhat less cliched character, in the background role of Sasuke Fanboy. (I'm not counting Kakashi, since he's supposed to be mysterious anyway, and thus his lack of character development can be excused.)

Many people say that if I watch all of the episodes, I'll like it. However, that would imply watching over a hundred episodes, and I simply don't have the time to do that, especially if I'm not going to enjoy it.

who said you have to like it, and who said you would need to see 100 eps to like it. If you don't like it, then don't watch it. If you do, go ahead and watch it. If you would like to give it more of a try then do so, and watch some more episodes. I'm glade you can judge a series based off 15 episodes, man you haven't even got to 19 or 20 yet.

Who said I had to like it? Most of the Naruto fans I've met prior to this. (Quick pullup of Gaim buddylist says... 19 out of 21 fans.) I don't log conversations, so I can't exactly pull up quotes.

Who said I had to see a hundred episodes to like it? Same as above.

And yes, I believe that I can judge a series off fifteen episodes. Fifteen episodes at about twenty minutes each would be three hundred minutes, or five hours. That's five hours I spent doing something that I did not enjoy, and frankly bored me. I apply the same standard to almost every series longer than thirteen episodes, in that if I don't even find one thing that interests me in those fifteen episodes (or thereabouts), I may as well give up.

I didn't say I didn't like Naruto! No, I did like what I have seen of it; and I definitely am not trying to force my own perception on anyone - what I meant was that, if I personally caught this show when I was 14, I would have probably been its' biggest fan and such.
Just that, you know, for me - times change, interests drift, ninjas have been replaced by German submarines.... you know....

If I had Cartoon Network, or watched TV at all for that matter, this would certainly be on my watch list. Solid entertainment.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Naruto is better than the Ninja Turtles, at any rate. Let's give the kids something we would've wanted for ourselves. :p

DBZ comparison, and I'll restrict myself to one since I haven't seen more than an hour of either series: in Naruto, losing means personal failure, whereas in DBZ it means the universe is annihilated. DBZ took the power levels way too high way too fast, until the only place they could go with it was "oh noes my spirit bomb has obliterated everything, time to wish it all back again." Naruto, by focusing on the characters' personal efforts rather than the pure external conflicts of Save-The-Earth shenanigans, hopefully is much more invested in character development and intercharacter relationships.

That said, it all comes down to the ninja fights. From a couple of AMVs I've seen, the ninja fights are awesome. Therefore, as a TV show, it's probably at least moderately awesome. I don't know if I'd be able to spend my hard earned non-rent money on more than a season's worth of ninja fights, but I'd at least try a few. Maybe just watch it on TV with the sound off.

I don't think it'll go to CN. I've seen petitions for it to be kept uncut and undubbed. My friend (who is also the anime club pres at my school) told me he signed a petition that 10,000 ppl saying to keep it undubbed. I myself have signed a petition to keep it undubbed. So even if it DOES get dubbed, it may stay the same cuz they'd most likely have to put it on Adult Swim.
I can claim the title as being the first person on a-m-v.org to submit an AMV with the artist KJ-52 on it. Yay. Hahaha.
Where my jello? I need it to go with my Cola, Rice, Puddin, Steak, macoroni, apple, peanut butter, plastic, baking soda, and cheese sandwhich!

The first season really is just a massive exposition of the main characters and the society they live in so I can find it a little understandable if someone finds it slow moving. During the last few episodes of the first season/throughout the second season, suddenly all of these new characters (most with their own backstories) are dumped on us. The primary villian doesn't appear until the second season. Suddenly, there is a plot that was totally unknown in the first season.

I started watching/reading just to see what all the fuss was about. I like it...suprisingly. Shounen fighting shows aren't usually my cup of tea. But it makes me laugh and I've found some of the fights entertaining...not all but more then I was expecting.

I'm kinda looking forward to it coming out on CN. I think my brother will really enjoy it especially since he seems to really like the Naruto AMVs I've shown him so far. It'll give us something to talk about since our tastes in anime usually differ considerably (mostly because of our age difference). I don't care if it's dubbed and edited for the younger audience. It's not like I'm missing out on anything.

It's really, really cute that you think online petitions mean anything. Naive, but cute.
