who is the most messed up anime character...?

One of the anime characters that I found the most mentally scared and messed up has to have been Gaara from Naruto. I mean seriously.....anyone that wants to kill you because they feel it gives them a reason to exist in this world has to be one of the most messed up people, though as the series goes on I'm appreciating his character a little more then I used too. Still, when I first saw him he scared the crap out of me, I mean I couldn't look at his character with out getting a chill down my spine......

Then they save the man she's idolized since childhood after he's been completely raped of his body from an entire year of torture, then all of her comrades die around her, as one who, it turns out had an unrequited love for her dies to protect her. Then she ends up getting captured and raped by Griffith in front of Guts and a crapload of demons. I haven't read the manga, but I know I'd probably rather be Guts than Caska...

Yeah, I agree too. But there is Kenshin. He has a REALLY messed up past.

And Claire Leonelli from Heatguy J; hes insane. So is Dilandau from Escaflowne.

Heh, when I first saw Claire, I couldn't help but to think of Dilandau.

But yeah, Dilandau is one of those right up there.

Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Gaara from Naruto are pretty messed up.

Also on the list is James from Pokemon >_>, the main character from Fooly Cooly, Kasubaki from Maburaho, Jakotsu from Inuyasha, Sasoke from Fullmetal Panic Fumoffu, Karasu from Yu Yu Hakusho, and Barry the Chopper from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Most messed up? Tough one.

Yugi Mutou (Yu Gi Oh) - He starts out almost normal, but after Duelist Kingdom he's been mindfucked so bad by his other half that he's completely hooked and emotionally dependant. Even the thought of separating drives him to tears.

Kazuya Hasukawa (Here is Greenwood) - Aww poor guy. The kind of stuff that happened to him, no wonder he needed to be held back from joining that cult.

Tonoin (Fujimi Orchestra) - That talking to the stuffed toys thing at the end was so screwed. I think the whole saying that he loves Morimura just makes it all the more sinister.
