When I was a kid, I watched Gatchaman (aka Battle of the Planets), Force Five and Voltron and didn't like Astroboy and Robotech. It was only until my early twenties that I started to get seriously into anime. Sailor Moon and its beautiful heroines were responsible for that, I guess.

I'd have to qualify though, that the first anime that I watched while actually realizing that it's anime and is something distinct from other types of animation... that would actually be a draw between Pokemon and Sailormoon around age 14.5-15.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

About 4 or 5 with the original Transformers series. 5, 6, 7, 8, with Sailor Moon.

I could have sworn I've seen this same topic before. :?

Humankind cannot gain anything withought first givving something in return. To obtain something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemys first law of equavalent exchange in those days we really believed that to be the worlds one and only truth.

22-23. At least, when I started actually following it and noticing it as a genre/form. I have my otherwise loathsome ex to thank for that.

I saw a few scattered things on Sci-Fi during high school as well as the first VHD, and a kids' movie or two when I was a kid, but that doesn't count. (I watched Sci-Fi out of curiosity and VHD because I was into vampires.) I wasn't -INTO- anime for its own sake till after college, and I'm thankful for that because of the expense. I shudder to think how broke I'd be if I had been buying VHS tapes all that time (and they'd be useless to me now, anyway).
