I never started enjoying anime because of geeky loosers.arzuro wrote:if anime fans weren't dumpy losers, then why are the male main characters of romantic anime (especially harem) usually dumpy losers.
One side of anime is that it could be considered geeky.. but really like I've said in other threads of yours.. you're lookin waay to deep into things and only seem like your looking for problems.. or creating them. Really though it's a matter of perspective.. and anime isn't about geeky loosers getting the girl.. have you seen RahXephon, Cowboy Bebop, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. They're not about the geeky looser getting the girl and they're the most popular anime.
Who the hell do you know that watches anime who is soo geeky? What is it that made you act this way? Some of the most popular kids in my school love anime... hell one of the hottest girls in my school loved it to death... she even borrowed anime from me.
If you care so much about the perspectives of others.. then your nothing but a freeakin' poser. End of story.

You missed the point, arzuro meant real fans, not anime characters.EmilLang1000 wrote: Long story
That being said, Bun hit the spot. Anime is too weird, too 'non-mainstream' to ever get accepted in the mainstream outside of japan (I don't even know if anime is mainstream IN japan in the first place). I don't mind, and although you find the 'geeky, nerdy type' more on animecons than the 'normal guys', these guys are more often than not just as cool as the 'normal guys'. Who cares anyway? Afraid your friends will see you hanging out with a cosplayer? If you're so afraid of your image, just don't hang out with anyone except the cool guys. And don't ever browse this site in public.
Where the image comes from? I have no idea, but I guess the 'nerdy type' is more attracted to the perfect female usually projected in anime than the 'normal type'.
Why they try to spread it (propagate), I have no clue. I have given up on trying to convince my friends to watch some anime. I got my brother to watch Naruto (typical, he likes DBZ when it aired too), my best friend to watch the top of the line (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Akira, GITS) but that's it. No use trying to 'convert' more of the nonfans. If they want something else, they'll search for it. If they don't, its their loss. That's how I got into contact with anime anyway.
P.S. Mind the 's for the normal and geeky descriptions. I would fall into the last category, but that doesn't mean I dress up like Sailor Venus or never go out to a bar or a disco.

Piercing is accepted in mainstream culture, tattoos are (at least here they are), I don't believe anime necessarily must be more weird thant sticking metal bits through parts of your body. Wouldn't anime be more fun if it wasn't something that was partially to be ashamed of.

I know plenty of people who would disagree, not all of them are exceptionally smart either. Plenty of people gain joy from pursuing knowlege just because they are curious. I can find something as simple as watching a 2D representation of the sound waves of music to be entertaining, even contemplating what 0 to the xth power is if x=0 (I'm thinking that since 0^0= 1 times no 0s, then 0^0=1) is fun at times. Not everyone can be content just knowing that something happens, but they want to know why, bereaking it down, building it up, rearanging it, sleeping on it, and examining it's every inch.arzuro wrote:Yes.
Back on topic. What's wrong with being a geek? All it means is you like something the 'normal' person doesn't. I still haven't even met this so called normal person anyway so who cares about him. Anime idn't as weird as peircing yourself, but it doesn't make you look good as peircings, tattoos or other body modification can, so it's equivalent to Star Trek or D&D, which are both also seen as geeky.

D&D also is not necessarily geeky. It's only geeky if you wear a "I am a roller of twenties" t shirt, have a massive beard and live to prove that the elf is the only sane race to choose for a cleric, then it's geeky. Unfortunately this is what happens a lot of the time. When people together and just play it cause it's a fun game, then there's absolutely nothing about it that's dorky.
