Mononoke is my fifth fav anime after Akira, Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, and Perfect Blue. Spirited Away was a demonstration of exellence within itself. Very original twist to a great old concept. Grave of Fireflies is also worth mentioning.

Well, that is what I liked so much about the movie. People find together to fight a much greater evil... that way they overcome their selfish thought...Wykith wrote:I may have taken a wrong turn somewhere but the last time I looked, real life is a lot like this. It's when people, all of a sudden, become compleatly selfless and fight together for the greater good, risking everything they have fought for to ensure that everyone comes out of it equally happy, that stories lose their believability.
Well... about the nature spirits, they sure aren't giant boors or wolfs, but I still believe there is more to mother nature than just a few trees...paizuri wrote: Hehe, I'm not sure if "believability" is the best word to describe what you're talking about. There's quite a few parts of Princess Mononoke that were unbelievable no matter what the final outcome of the events were (the nature spirits, the giant talking animals, shooting people's arms off with an arrow). Well, maybe that's just me being a skeptic.
Also I think it is possible to shoot one's arm of (maybe not the whole, but like after the hit the arm is just hanging there or so..) because it said Ashi Taka uses Stone Arrows. That would explain a little...

I have not seen Laputa but I have seen Nausica a very long time ago, I heard talk of its release.Tsuji Mania wrote:I love how people new to the world of Japanese animation instantly jump on the Mononoke Hime bandwagon and carry a banner around declaring its superiority, yet they have never seen the true classics that established Miyzaki and Ghibli as the pinacle of works that can cross age and cultures like Nausica and Laputa.
Even though Mononoke is not my favorite, it is one of the fewest animes that can go over 90 minutes and and still holds you till the very end. Akira would have been better if it never went over that limit.

Princess Monoke -Boring hippy film with some decent blood letting. No cute chicks.
Laputa-Cute little chick,Interesting plot. Far better than Monoke or Spirited (yawn) away.
Princess Mononoke is not the best anime ever it might be somewhere down the list around 6 thousand.
